Robyn, looking at your to do list makes me glad my kids are old.

So far, I've:

showered,
had a follow-up visit with my doctor,
did the grocery shopping,
had lunch,
visited my favorite scrap sites, and
completed a layout (that I don't love).

Going to take a short nap before straightening the house and fixing dinner. I'll be back here tonight after American Idol.

Get kiddo's out the door

Discipleship time with my girls
Photo shoot friends dog for "the old navy poster dog contest" (hope she wins, I get a cut.)
Download kits at library for CT
Laundry
help kiddos with homework
church
I'd lke to fit a nap in, but not sure I'm gonna manage that.

Well, it is already 3:30 here and I haven't accomplished much at all. DH had a nurse visit (he added on more life insurance & they wanted to do a checkup) this morning at 8:00 am, so the house WAS spotless this morning. I also had the kids out of bed and dressed. I took one boy to school (middle schooler went with his MeMaw). I had a nap. I made lunch. I put breakfast & lunch dishes in the dishwasher. I finished my 4x6 layout for the DAQ naming ceremony.

Guess that's about it. Tomorrow I hope to tackle some of the laundry that is taking up my bedroom floor :o

No fair!!! I want to scrap during the day!!! Throwing temper tantrum!

You and me both, Robyn. I have a day job that keeps me from QUIRKING when the sun is out. How unfair!!!!! (Although I can usually sneak in some gallery scouting and forum posting... in between tasks...)

Hmmmmm.... I may have to post a haiku in Amy's thread about my non-daylight-hours quirking... hmmmm...

It is now 11:06. My day so far:

5:30 am up and logged into work from home. Prepare checklist and review security documentation for loan
7:00 get the kiddo up, breakfasted, showered, dressed and dropped off at preschool sitter
9:00 - 12:00 finish closing a transaction.
12:10 take time out to call girlfriend who just had baby :) Try to arrange dinner for guests from Scotland and uncle in another city. Not working too well.
12:00 - 4:30 finish closing another transaction.
4:30 - 5:00 try to nail washing machine salesman to a delivery time. Call several people to see if they can come to my house for a morning deliver. Give up. Put washing machine salesman on tomorrow's to do list
5:00 - 6:30 partner's meeting
6:30 - 7:30 evening commute. Go to visitors hotel and take them out for dinner
11:00 get home. Have to plan for kiddo's school trip tomorrow and we have no stuff for his lunch. Joe volunteers to go to the 24 hour grocery.
11:05 and here I am!

I guess it it good news that I can't fit any laundry in :(

Hmmm. I just posted a whine about how I am not actually scrapping these days: blocked blocked blocked. I guess I could be tired, lol!

I would say it's probably a lack of sleep thing Kim! Because I know your creative brain is in overdrive at all times!

Thanks for the good thoughts, Robyn, I will definitely call upon you to help make up a minyan for the group sacrifice I am planning on staging. As naming ceremony deadlines are starting to creep up, I might just wait until we have a tribe and petition the tribe to help me design a ceremony to get my mojo back. In the meanwhile, I have decided to begin a quest for a talisman. I am beginning to wonder if the washing machine salesman's card might not be it. I know at first blush it seems unlikely but before I draw his face on it and stick pins in body parts I will give it more thought. I may be being hasty.

Thank goodness I had my vocab lesson before reading this post Kim. Because now I understand it! You have such a wonderful vocabulary and write so eloquently. And now about that sacrifice ... what should it be?

Hmmm...I'm thinking of a movie title

"The Adventures of Raven: Quest for the Lost Mojo - Part I: THE TALISMAN"

OK so maybe you can write this strange novelette on your quest for the lost Mojo. It could involve a magic purple feather duster and a strange washing machine and a salesman's business card on which a talisman can be found written in invisible ink...

SIDENOTE
On the stated topic I have actually managed to polish of about a dozen minitasks that have been put off for months...everything from sewing up the ears on my stuffed moose (rabbit chewed) to hanging a mirror to repairing a lamp cord (spliced it myself) - all these stupid little things I've blown off are DONE! I'm so happy with myself!

It's always so great to get all those little things done!

Yep, I'm beaming. I have this little alcove shelf thingie in my house 3x4 feet and it was covered in brown shag carpet. I swear I ripped off the carpet a year ago and tore off the trim and it's been sitting there w/primer all this time. Finally put some fake wood flooring down and replaced the trim. Then I piled all my antique linens in back and put books in front. It looks soooo much better and my bedroom is now 'finished'.

As a single homeowner I just get so intimidated by these projects but I think I'm learning to be very organized and put my tools away and stuff. It even helps w/the paper crafting - if I don't discipline myself to organize everything and put it away when I'm done I end up losing stuff and getting really agitated and flustered.

I had my storm door sitting in the living room for 4 months because I just didn't feel the mojo to paint it. Then I painted it and it sat a while longer until I decided to put it back on. This is by no means unusual so when stuff gets done it's a big deal!

Ah, I hope your alcove inspires me! Some nutburger put bamboo wall covering on one of the kitchen walls. Probably to disguise the fact that plaster was in shambles. I got so mad at it I half ripped it off and it has been like that for about 7 years. Yes, 7.

if it has been like that for seven years (7bad years for the wall) there will be 7 good years now or longer. lol. It is a good thing to change it. I like redecorating my house. Well if I get tired, I re arrange the house move the furniture around hang decorations on a different spot. That makes me feel good again. funny huh. Or when I dont feel so good about myself I get a different haircut or buy a new outfit. hihi some excuse for shopping. good luck putting the bamboo against the wall, well I would love to see a picture, I have to do some on my house . fun seeing how we will, our houses are way smaller then the usa houses. Most americans would sufficate in our houses. lol. I felt like that when I moved back from the states to holland.

05-22-2006, 09:33 AM
I kept thinking of Holland when I was trying to get my washer into my house. I know that you have neat ways of moving big things into the tops of your houses. Unfortunately, mine was the basement so even hiring a crane or using pulleys would not have done it but I did say, "Well, they can do it in Holland!" No one thought that remark was brilliant (um, because this was a basement) and (um, because we don't live in Holland).

I like small houses. In America people are obsessed with building these 'McMansions' that are huge. Then they have to buy all new furniture because normal stuff is dwarfed. Disgusting. I have no idea where these people get the money to build these monsters.

I just remembered I have pictures of my townhome on the web (http://www.pbase.com/holyghostrally/redesign)- at on point I was going to hire this lady who rearranges your furniture (thus the little comments on what I don't like etc). I don't have the money now so if anyone has decorating ideas feel free to contribute!

My style is budget arty shabby chic. I simply must get a deal on everything I buy or I feel incredibly guilty.

Your place looks really cute, Debra! I like your style. I have no style. We have guitars and Lord of the Rings posters hung on our walls. We're in an apartment, so we can't paint or anything. I can't wait until we get our own home and can make it our own. Big houses make me feel unsafe though, like reverse claustrophobia I think.

SteinwaysMom
05-22-2006, 08:53 PM
Yeah, having your own home is fun - it's a lot of work and it never looks like the magazines but you can paint and do fun stuff. My old apartment was long and narrow and I would get really depressed in the winter - I noticed that living in a house w/a bit more space I don't feel so 'closed in'. I like the townhome cause it's sort of a nice starter house for someone who's not 'handy' and hates mowing.

Maybe you can be on one of those HGTV shows - there's one for first time homeowners. I wanted to be on HGTV but you pretty much have to live on the West Coast.

Debra, your home looks so restful, almost Zen-like. Seems like a perfect setting for your art.

Thanks. Heehee you can't see the big mounds of bunny hair and hay that accumulate on those lovely floors (thus the $600 Dyson vacuum cleaner!)

Wow, Debra, I have to agree, your place looks very nice. Love those wood floors and all the brown tones. Relaxing IS a good word for the feel of your home.
