Nevermore

It has been a LONG time since the muse has hit. Everybody told me don't worry but seriously guys, I might have to hang up my graphire if something doesn't happen soon. I hope to grab some time to cruise the gallery for tons of inspiration--maybe it hasn't dried up yet and I can get any smooshed stuff leaking out of the edges. I might have to ask for a group sacrifice or ceremony or ritual or something. Or maybe I have to find a talisman. You know, I am not sure if I know the actual definition of talisman. Off to google.
From Merriam Webster: OH YEAH, I WANT TO BE INITIATED INTO THE MYSTERIES!
Main Entry: tal·is·man
Pronunciation: 'ta-l&s-m&n, -l&z-
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural -mans
Etymology: French talisman or Spanish talismán or Italian talismano; all from Arabic tilsam, from Middle Greek telesma, from Greek, consecration, from telein to initiate into the mysteries, complete, from telos end -- more at TELOS
1 : an object held to act as a charm to avert evil and bring good fortune
2 : something producing apparently magical or miraculous effects
- tal·is·man·ic /"ta-l&s-'ma-nik, -l&z-/ adjective
- tal·is·man·i·cal·ly /-ni-k(&-)lE/ adverb

Oh yay! I was hoping for a vocabulary lesson tonight! LOL! Great word to know. Kim - don't worry. Your muse will find you when it is ready. When you get busy some creativity has to be bottled up. I haven't scrapped in quite a few days either. And I know I won't for a while longer. Just too much stuff. But when I have the time - the creativity just flows. I know that will happen for you , too. Now go to bed!!

I'm a vocabulary nut, so I love seeing all of these SAT words being thrown around.

Oh, and I hope you find your inspiration and/or your talisman soon, Kim! Eat some chocolate in the meantime.

There is a chocolate theme running through DAQ today ...

It does seem as though chocolate is the cure for everything :)

Funny ... I have just never been a huge chocolate fan. I like it but always prefer vanilla or white candy. My mom always joked that I was "food prejudiced!"

CathyRose
05-18-2006, 06:37 PM
Oh my Robyn, not liking chocolate is your biggest quirk of all!

happyrobyn
05-18-2006, 06:39 PM
Yeah probably so!! I do like it but can do without it.

Vania16
05-18-2006, 07:11 PM
I'm not a huge chocolate nut either - I like it, but I'd take gummy candy or swedish fish or such before it any day. DH is a huge chocolate fan though - we laugh a lot that he loves it so much and I can take it or leave it :)

Vania16
05-18-2006, 07:12 PM
Also, I hate strawberries - my friends tell me that makes me insane ;)

Nevermore
05-18-2006, 07:13 PM
I haven't the foggiest what a swedish fish is--I take it that this is not as opposed to, say, mexican fish or polish fish?

Actually, I think your friend is right!!!!

(I'm so kidding!) (I tend to be sarcastic...) (Perhaps that is one of my quirks?)

So, now I'm picturing Nevermore running around with a Hershey's talisman around her neck. :p You guys are too funny!

It's a gummy in the shape of a fish I believe.

Chocolate talisman and Swedish fish. I think you probably just need a good artist's date. go someplace you love and bask in the inspiration. time for you and your muse to recharge. I'm also doing morning pages to get out all the bad junk and think through my artistic ideas.

Oh, and for any who care, I'm not a big chocolate fan either. I would rather go for something tart like nerds or Now n Laters.

Vania16
05-18-2006, 07:59 PM
Yup - swedish fish are a kind of gummy thing in fish shape :) And, I love now n laters and nerds too - have you ever seen the nerds rope - now that is a candy LOL Gummy center with nerds stuck to it!

And, yeah I think I might be a little nuts about the strawberry thing :) It's funny because I'll literally eat almost anything - I've tried some of the weirdest stuff in the world - but I just can't hack them. it's odd.

Nevermore - best advice I can give you - go to your graphics program, open up a new document - pick a bunch of stuff (don't thnk about it - just grab) and paste them into your document - move them around - something will come - I guarantee it.

I just purchased this book called - The Writer's Book of Matches - it has 1001 prompts to help you get writing - hence the matches - it sparks your creativity - LOL. The editors say it doesn't matter what you write, as long as you write - I figure the same would appy to art - it doesn't matter what you create - as long as you are creating. Just the act alone will help. If you don't like what you've done - move onto another one -

Never tried a nerds rope, may have to do that. Oh and Lisa, the REASON you don't like strawberries is because YOU'RE QUIRKY, duh!

Does anyone else ever wish we could actually speak and record our voices for these threads. I often wonder if my 'humor' is understood by things like all caps, or quotations or whatever. I hope no one thinks I'm being rude when I do posts such as the one above. The intent is always for humors sake and would surely be much funnier if only I could grace you with my vocal cords.

Great advice Kaza!

Kaza, that just might work--I will let it drip into my subconscious while I go (ahem, cough!) load the WASHER (ohh please let me repeat that) while I go load the WASHER. If I believe that I have been given a sign by a gypsy, might have enough charm power to jump start my poor bedraggled mojo.

Oh, and if it'll make you feel any better Nevermore, I'll post the very lame LO I've just finished cause my brain has no seeming creative power at present. Wait, I'll link it back so you can look and say, "Yeah, she's lost the muse as well", then maybe you'll be inspired to one up me.

Oh, totally Ursula. Especially for someone like me. I have a really dry sense of humor and I tend to be very sarcastic. So what could be taken by some as a sorta nasty comment is just me being silly... I always feel the need to put "just kidding" in posts so people realize I'm just goofing around.

I totally got it Ursula :) I'm more scared of people not getting it when I first start on a board, but after a while people get to know each other and it's easier to get tone of voice. But, around here, when in doubt, I figure it's funny and sarcastic LOL

I am of a mind that anyone hanging out here has gotta be a little bit quirky to begin with and they'll likely get my off-center humor. At least I hope so! :)

The jumping from topic to topic. The sarcasm. The good-natured ribbing. I tell my husband I've finally met people who think like I do. So what if there's only 100 or so of us in the whole world? :)

Ursula

OH, Yeah, love to go to my room, the quiet is heavenly! But can I bring my laptop?

I do totally love the comeraderie that has developed here. It is sooo refreshing to find fellow weirdo's. I'm saying this half in jest, but not entirely. I have often felt like the odd one out which in a way, I like. I like to be unique. But you also want to know that you are enjoyed by the others around you. So, I'm feeling mushy now, I just love you guys!

Who you callin' weirdo????? :D

I am weird. My husband will be the first to say that (my friends will too). But it's weird in a good way. Perhaps goofy is a better term for it. Anyway, should we have a group hug, Ursula?

Ursula

OH yeah, group hug. Hope no minds the weirdo moniker. I take pride in being wierd, because normal is boring.

Sure, Amy. Group hug. Go to your room. Take a nap. Quirk. Group hug. Go back to your room. Take another nap (those quirks take a lot out of one, after all...).

Why don't you choose a poem to illustrate, Nevermore? Or make the layout only about journaling, no photos? That is a good place, I think to start, when you feel blocked!! It helps me to just concentrate on journaling...also challenges help!! have you seen any tempting challenges lately??
