home decorating styles? Faux finished walls? eclectic? Shabby Chic? Clean lined? and how do they relate to your scrapping style?

For me...I'm definately eclectic. Also love faux finished and wall murals!

I guess that's why my scrapping style is a bit too much for most people!!:o

Hey congrats on the 300!

Wow, do we gotta pick them all. I like everything. If I were wealthy and had the time, I think I'd have a room done in each theme following. Cowboy, Tuscan, shabby chic, Mexican bright color style, country, simple chic. I love anything pleasing to the eye.

Ursula

And that totally relates to my scrap style. If you visit my complete gallery at www.danieq.digitalscrapbookplace.com, you will see that I don't have one style, I do a wide variety of styles. I can't settle on one style cause I get bored to easily.

Great question.

Not suprisingly, my decorating style is pretty eclectic too LOL I tend to just find pieces that I love and make them work together :) I see a lot of brilliantly decorated homes and think, "I really love that style," but I just don't have the restraint to live with one thing - maybe if I could do Ursula's multi-room idea :)

My decorating style is a bit quirky, kinda shabby, kinda country, kinda antique-y (but mostly just family stuff I've inherited that I love), very colorful (I don't think I have any two rooms in my house painted the same color and NONE of my walls are white!). I've been told my house, by those who have been to it, is right in line with my design/scrapping style. I find this thread super interesting, actually.

Something that doesn't have clutter in it - LOL.

Both my DD and DH are clutter pigs.

Yeah, this is a fun topic to discuss. And I must say, it makes me happy to be in the company of people who like color on their walls. I cannot for the life of me understand why anyone would choose to go to all the trouble of painting a wall and make it white. Unless it is an actual design element, which can be used to tremendous effect. But that's not usually the case. Usually people are just too afraid of color to add it. Makes me sad. I get so bored in a white house. Actually, my current house has only two rooms painted, but lots of the doors and trim have color. Till I get the energy, that's the way it'll be, but one day, I'm gonna live in rainbow house!

I was the one who originally mentioned having no white walls. So I thought I would, because I need to get up to 500 posts naturally, tell you what color my walls are. I know you are curious, aren't you? I thought so.

Living room: peachy-salmony color
Kitchen/dining room: it's like a salmony-light brick red (it's actually my fave wall color in the house)
Upstairs hallway: burgundy wallpaper that was here when I moved in and I haven't gotten rid of it yet (I don't mind it, I just wouldn't have picked it)
Guest room: super super pale pink (it's my most "girly" room in the house)
Master bedroom: pale buttery yellow
Upstairs bathroom: terra cotta orange
Downstairs bathroom: different pale yellow
Office: brighter buttery yellow
Family room: pinky salmony

Yeah, I guess I like stuff in the salmon and yellow family for my walls... LOL. My family room was originally a light sage green, but it's in the basement and it's chilly down here, and the cool green made it seem chillier, so I painted it the warmer salmon and it made a huge difference. Huge. Warmed the room right up.

Ok, my email is almost as long as Nevermore's. I should stop now so I don't show her up.

Oh I like the turn this thread has taken. I think it is fun to share things like that. Well, we still have a few off-white walls but color on most of them. Our main living area, the family room, kitchen, breakfast nook, diningroom and foyer are all open to each other or connected in some way. All are a warm buttery yellow, creamy, pale but with some depth to it. Our furniture both upholsted and painted wood are in shades of cranberry and forest green. I love these colors (and Christmas decorating is easy, lol). We have white trim in the rooms and hardwood floors, even in the kitchen. Up the stairs and in the hallway, wall paper that has dark green, tan, cranberry and a little navy in it. Of course if you have seen my blog, you know the MB walls are deep red. I have a sewing room up there That I just painted a tan color that I picked up out of the wallpaper in the hallway. I still have two bedrooms that are off-white so I am still in the market for paint.

LOL Robyn, you sound like my parents - actually they'll probably make you feel much better. After over nine years in their last house, they finally hung artwork in the living room. About six months later they ended up moving and having to take it all down again LOL We made them hang at least some of it up in the new house right away - my mom's still debating about their room though and they've now lived in that house for about two years :)

Banana yellow does sound so nice with the green and cranberry. :)

Ursula

Wow Krista, you're house sounds very warm and inviting.

Well, since we're listing color choices, I'll tell you about a few of mine.

DD's Bedroom is a bright green in the lime family with jack cheese trim (that's a fancy name for a yellowish white)
DS bedroom is taupe slate blue on bottom half of room and taupe on top half on two ajacent walls and a deep golden yellow on the other two. I love the way that turned out. All the trim is the slate color.
Doors and trim downstairs are a toned down aqua, and upstairs a combo of taupe and rassberry shades. Actually, most of the trims were here when I got here and I haven't gotten around to changing it. It's not what I would choose, but its better than white and painting puts my DH is a BAD mood.

Ursula
05-19-2006, 02:07 PM
Now, when I do what I want to, this is what it'll be. A very warm bright golden ochre in the kitchen/dining with barn red accents.
Living will be terra cotta, office and scraproom plum, hallway barn red, my room, haven't decided. But all the colors will be very saturated. I love deep saturated colors!

My DH built a barn and it is buttercup yellow with a sage green trim and bright red doors. Eventually, we are going to do the house in the same scheme but too many other projects in front of that one. Found that scheme on the cover of Sunset and fell in love.

I want some color! We rent our house and we aren't allowed to paint, so all our walls are white - it makes me sad. But, I've now hung up so much art on the walls that you can hardly tell LOL! I can't wait until we can buy a place so I can do whatever - color here we come!

skyescrapz
05-19-2006, 02:50 PM
That might be why I have so many different colors on my walls. I went from renting to finally having my own place and I was so happy that I could paint things any color I wanted that I went a little bit nuts.

I hear you gals! In fact when my dh & I got our 1st home he insisted on white walls (an Army thing) but I told him: "Look, you married an artist, you knew that from the beginning and there is no way that I'm living in a white house!!" He replied "Fine, but don't expect me to help!" I said: "FINE!" Well one day he came home to find a faux finished burgundy colored wall and he said "Wow! That looks really nice! What color should we do the other walls?" and that my friends is how I converted my dh to color!!! The funny thing about this is his name happens to be Arturo but he goes by 'ART'!! :D In fact, he even painted our (his) garage in our new home!! lol!

I love everyone's color pallettes!! Here's my color pallette by the way:

Front room: Medium Sage Green with lt. vanilla which I plan to accent with paprika window decor as an accent color.
Home office: Dark Terra cotta (very saturated color) and a touch of the same sage green as in the front room on a smaller wall.
Dining room: Lt. Celery green and lt. vanilla
Kitchen: Lilac
Hallways: The same sage green and lt. vanilla
Future baby room: lt. vanilla and I'm planning to make it into a 'Baby Shabby Chic' themed room with lots of pink baby roses!
Master Bedroom: this room still hasn't been painted but we are talking of painting it a lavendar shade.

Cool! Since we're on the topic of decorating can you guys give me advice on what color to paint my ugly hall and kitchen? I was going to hire this 'redesign lady' but spent my Christmas money so now I'm on my own...

My latest idea is sage green for the kitchen but the hall I'm still stuck on...I have this thing for yellow-green which can be pukey but it looks really good if it's muted...

Hallway (green-gray - yuk) (http://www.pbase.com/holyghostrally/image/54124303)
Kitchen (tired of the blue) (http://www.pbase.com/holyghostrally/image/54124494)

I would love to see pix of other peoples places BTW - the colors sound yummy. My dining room is also 1/2 green (muted sage/silver) and 1/2 vanilla.

Decorating style? Comfortable and functional. I mortify my children by lying down on couchs in showrooms to see if they're good for naps. I love the Arts & Crafts style, and like to buy the work of local artisans when I can afford it.

Colors? Love the jewel tones.

Living room and kitchen -- buttercup yellow
Dining room -- red
Bedroom -- gold
Son's room -- navy
New craft room -- painting it sage
Office -- yellow, red and green

My husband is complaining that the house is looking too autumny, so I guess it's time to spruce it up.

You know what I love about this group (one of the many, many things)... I don't think I've run into another group of people with so much color in the homes before. I have a ton, and I often feel like the odd duck since I have so much. So many people opt for while/cream/beige walls. I found that to be very much the case when we were house-hunting. So many were like that. Not that there is anything wrong with that (and for those of us on this forum who are renting, I hope that you may soon have a house of your own to paint any color you wish!), but I just love surrounding myself with color. It makes me so happy.

What was very funny was one house we went into when we were house hunting... we still call it the purple house. It was purple with lilac trim on the outside, and the interior was PURPLE throughout (shades of purple and lilac, basically). The kitchen, the bathroom... even the WALLS IN THE BASEMENT. It was a little disconcerting, actually.

thanks kathyrose, I do feel very happy in my house although it was kind of shocking when there was no furniture in it, but with the furniture it made it cozy and warm. my house before was all in peach color. yes I like color too. and so does my daughter she wants a aqua blue, white and silver room now, so i am thinking of (asking my boyfriend) to paint it with me.
