View Full Version : Does anybody else feel like this?
I have noticed lately that I am not entirely happy with the way some of my quirks turn out, although I greatly enjoy the process. I almost feel like my new motto is, "Dare to be mediocre!" Some of my ATCs are good examples of artistic flatulence - I just had to get it out and done, regardless of whether it could even be considered a work of art.
So... anybody else? Do you quirk simply to quirk? Do you feel that all of your work is great? Or will you toss out something you hate just because it happened?
Maybe that's what my motto should be: Quirk Happens. :p

Last night, I spent 4 hours on a piece just because I wanted to make something pretty. And when I was done, it was pretty (all peachy and flowery) and terribly boring. I left it up while I went to bed thinking I could fix it, but this morning I tossed it out. I don't feel bad about it. The creating was good; it's just the creation that wasn't. :)

It's really hard for me to post something I'm not 100% happy with. Usually if I push though that stage it gets a whole lot better.
But I think it's OK to produce stuff that doesn't consistently knock your socks off. Sometimes the 'wow' piece comes after a series of more humdrum experimentations in which supporting stages are being artistically worked out.
I like doing art journal pages cause it seems like I feel freer to just goof around and not get hung up on perfection.

I agree Donna! It's practice, practice, practice! I was an art student for several years a life time ago and one of my favorite teachers encouraged us to just get a pencil and make strokes on the paper for as long as we wanted. It just got you in unison with your instrument and it didn't matter that it wasn't a piece of art! I also find that the LOs that I agonize over are flat...the ones that I just sit down and zip through (just doing it for fun not purpose) are usually the ones that I like the most!

We should make that into a bumber sticker..... or a blinkie perhaps ;)
speaking of... where does one find the blinkies that I keep seeing in sigs here?

I think you can get the link to the blinkies from Robyn...

This is exactly what happens to me. I always rationalised it (because you know I am NOT going to end a post so abruptly) as in the latter instance it was already finished inside me, I just didn't know it but if I gave it a way to voice itself, it just poured out. In the former instance, I might have all the bits and pieces but they haven't come together yet so I am basically just forcing the jigsaw together by hammering bits and sawing off ends. Brute force and they always look forced.

Too true. I just did both my naming ceremony pieces in under an hour (which for me is amazing). Without fussing and agonizing. I forced myself not to think. Works like a charm! Praise God for brief spurts of Mojo! I was getting panicked...
