View Full Version : MAIL SWAP JULY 2007: Life's Journeys

Once again, I can't believe it's time to post next month's swap theme already! I wonder if some of you have even come up with an idea for June's swap yet! LOL! That was a tough one. This one might be a bit easier for you.

This month's theme was suggested by Carolyn: Life's Journeys. I can see all sorts of ways to use maps, globes, travel ephemera, etc. for this one! Should be fun

So, if you want to play this month, send me an email (webchyck@comcast.net)with the subject: JULY SWAP. Please include your name, mailing address and email address (for you veterans, just reply to this thread saying you're participating...I have your info...unless it's changed). You have until midnight Eastern on July 7th to sign up. On the 8th everyone who has registered will receive a list of all the other artists with whom they will be trading. You will then have until July 31st to create, print, and mail your artist trading cards to the other participants. (Keep postal rates in mind before you sign up as you are responsible for mailing the cards yourself. If we have enough participants in a particular country, we can group them together, otherwise it will be an international endeavor.) Each swap group will have no more than 9 participants (including yourself), give or take 6 or so...we sort of adjust it every month! LOL! The consensus is large groups rock, and we've been having about 15 in a group. You may create one ATC based on the theme and replicate it for everyone or you may create unique ATCs to send out. You may also use any combination of paper and digital you like for this swap.

If anyone has any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. We do have a lot of information about Artist Trading Cards (http://www.digitalartquirks.com/forum/../articles/article_atc_becky_march2006.htm) in an an ARTicle in our Resource section that might answer any questions you have.

I'm looking forward to seeing where Life's Journeys take you this month!

It is July 1 so not really too early for me to be working on this month's swap. I gotta tell you, you do enough of these and some of them really grab you and some are good but the earth doesn't move, know what I mean? Well, I am just tickled pink over this month's and can't stop laughing. Now that is Raven in full flight: I know the theme sounds pretty mega serious but the first thing that popped into my mind is not serious at all. I was just born to be contrary! (Coffeequeen, you know what I mean!) The icing on the cake is that I found the major elements this morning so all I have to do now is gussy it up a bit. Last month's card was all digital so I would like to alter/hybrid this one a titch.

I am having a hard time with this one. Maybe I'm over thinking it. Life's journeys could be anything; but it's hard for me.

So, I just read Kim's response and decided that I have a whole month to work on this one... so please sign me up. I will try my best to come up with something and right now I'm not sure what that is.

But, life takes us to places we never thought we would go and to places that we never thought we would venture... Life's Journeys, right????

So, now I'm off to see what splendiforous things are awaiting me and you.

Mmm, I was on a 'journey' in France :D and I had a major house refreshement where everything what could be going wrong was going wrong including my internet connection and due the activities an accident with my hand so a little 'wingless'. But back from the holidays with a fixed hand and 'body' and internet connection ready for a 'Life's Journey'.

Can't wait to see what's in store for this month. I Love getting "snail" mail now.

Finally got my backs done and the two pieces put together...perhaps I'll get the envies addressed tomorrow or Saturday. Hey, maybe they'll even get in the mail by Monday or Tuesday! This is SO not like me to not be on top of them--I usually don't drag out the putting them together part once I'm on a roll, but life is just in the way! In good and bad ways. I am really excited about these, though, so the wait shall be worth it!

07-20-2007, 10:17 AM
Yeah, Robyn, I sat around thinking about where each of you were in life and pointed the pointer in the proper direction just knowing the U.S. and international postal systems would make sure to keep them pointed RIGHT WHERE I LEFT THEM! (LMAO you goof!) hahahahaha! But see? Now you get it, right? A GREAT IDEA, right? I'm patting myself on the back (only it's more like the top of my shoulder because I can't reach my back really).

Thank you so much for your cards, Ladies. I have been having a bit of a tiresome time with health, so I haven't actually posted your cards yet, but at least they are now printed out, backed and in their addressed envelopes, so I am getting there.

A bright spark in a grey month is that my newest family member was born on Monday night, she weighed 4.5 oz at birth and takes after her daddy, with a good appetite and a laid-back attitude. I haven't seen her yet, but will post pictures as soon as I am allowed to visit. Her name is Freya and she is a Bichon Frise.

Turning myself in, can't stand being a fugitive anymore. As most of you know, I just came back from a two week vacation and I am already sadly aware
1. that I won't get my cards done in time
2. that it will take me skulking around to get someone (whistling whistling whistling and looking tres nonchalant in Ms. Webchyk's general direction) to resend me the list of participants
3. that I will try to get them done this weekend but it always take me longer than scheduled because I still struggle a little with cutting and gluing.

I think Max will help me again, he gets the credit for the inspiration for sure. I did draft up a couple of takes early in the month but got sidelined trying to get ready to take the vacation.

So, I think it is best for me (and, really, for you all because you know I love to post and whinge!!!) if I decide right here and now to send out July and August together.

To make up for it, here is the latest Max joke:

A teddy bear walks into a restaurant. The waiter asks him what he can get for him. "Nothing, thank you" says the bear, "I'm stuffed." I howled when I heard that. Truly. He gets his sense of humour from his mom. My favourite joke of all time is very similar. A dog limps into a bar. The bartender asks him what he can get him. "Nothing," says the dog, "I'm looking for the man that shot my paw".

Hey Kim, welcome back, I missed your ramblings and your observations. Please tell Max that I loved his joke. Very good!!!

As for combing the ATCs to send out - that's fine with me. I've certainly done that (like putting June & July together). I know you are going to come up with something spectacular so I don't mind a bit waiting for your goodies.

(P.S. quilting has actually been done on a sewing machine even as far back as the mid-1800s - some "purists" think you have to do "hand" quilting; but if that were the case I would still be on my first quilt...)

Mar and Judith - your cards landed here in Australia yesterday. I was in bed with Flu so Mar your card was delivered to my bedside by my husband - he was really taken by the map in the envelope (he is very left brained) I loved your concept of `just jump' like the Nike ad. I sometimes think that when I hear young women - in their words `trying to decide whether or not to have a baby' I feel like saying just do it!! LOL

Speaking of babies your card was so good Judith - I love the footprint in the sand on the back. But I am confused about the camels? on the front. I think I am missing something here, quite possible in quirkland I know :)

Camels are the SHIP of the desert. I tried to make the background a desert sand colour LOL, to match the footprint in the sand on the back. All to do with going places in the journey through life.

All my life I wanted to travel and as an adult, I have done so, including more than one desert. As technology improves, the world will become an even smaller place, I wonder where the little child will travel.

P.S. As he was opening it, he said, "Oh, it's gold on the top. Maybe someone is sending us a credit card." But being 7 he was just as happy to get a trading card. Being 47 and understanding that credit cards come with credit card statements every month, so was I!

Opening my stack of cards (trying to fish them out from the bills. Don't want to see the bills.)

Already told Judith how much I loved her card (Max, too).

Bonnie, got Country Chic and that Betsy Sue is a wonder!

Becky, I am halfway between elsewhere and somewhere--sounds just about right!

Ruth, love the main card and the maze. You should produce a game pack for that provo tin. Great for family car trips! Your corners on the main card are perfectly rounded!

Helen, the zen saying is just beautifully illustrated.

Mar, I would have been thrilled with the card without even getting an ATC! What a funky title for that woman...

Denise, I love the treatment on the couple, such an overall funky blending job and what is with the upside down dates, lol!

Bev, you are just too cute in that roadster!!! and Max Trax is wonderful!!!

Victoria, holy cow! I got: Funky fat birds on a white picket fence, Max's gorgeous card and the funny Take me Away journey!!!

OK ... they're DONE! Am I late? No ... not in the happyworld I live in. Time is not relative here. But I wanted to let you know that I had these designed at the beginning of July but they required lots of drinking on my part to get the backs done! And then I finally got all of the bottlecaps and tonight I got out the hammer and started smashing and nailing ... this after drinking the last two. Fun stuff. Sorry for any of you who get bottlecaps with orange body glitter on them ... I can 'splain ... really!

Yes ... when? You can just count it as part of your ADSR challenge!

Hey, we're caught up now, aren't we? (Robyn and I are doing a book together...The Purpose Driven Life. Robyn is finding out that DRINKING is not the purpose of life; and I am finding out that SEX isn't either...we're not sure what's left! ;D)

I actually mailed my June and July cards today. I'm sorry they're so late. Between computer issues and printing problems, the cards just took way too long to put together.

I also had a chance to organize my June/July ATCs today, and ladies, they're just wonderful. I think the Journey's cards may be my favorites yet.

Donna I received your cards yesterday - a lovely surprise, they are both so unusual and well... quirky... LOL Thankyou

I have 'em tagged and bagged, so to speak. Finished. A little note to tuck inside and even the labels finished. But alas!!! Not one single envelope in the house! Never fear. Envelopes and stamps will be purchased tomorrow and at very long last my July Journey cards can begin theirs!!!

Guess I can officially send mine then and still keep my title as the last to send them out.

Your cards received, and duly (and reverently) placed on the proper pages of my ATC collection. Thanks, Kim, for the note as well. We'll miss you next month but we know you'll be recharging your batteries and coming back roaring!!

I have some beautiful Life's Journeys ATCs to thank the creators for today! Thank you Alice for the Orient-inspired piece! And thank you Kim for the chuckle! How many times did you poke yourself with the safety pins while sticking them into the cards? (Har Har!)
