MAIL SWAP AUGUST 2007: Happiness Is... [Archive]

Um...hello! It's the end of July already. What the heck!?! It cannot be!!! But yep...there it is on my calendar: post DAQ swap theme.

This month's theme was suggested by Carolyn. Carolyn's been laying low because she's not feeling well...she has some serious health issues, but promises to catch up with all her ATCs ASAP. She just loves being part of our swap, even though she can't get to the forums and gallery very often. Like many of us, her discovery of digital art has been both therapeutic and invigorating and she misses getting to spend time at her computer! I know you all understand. So, the theme she suggested, and this was months ago, you know how it's been going...we have themes through next year now...is Happiness Is...you define it by YOUR ideas!

So, if you want to play this month, send me an email (webchyck@comcast.net)with the subject: AUGUST SWAP. Please include your name, mailing address and email address (for you veterans, just reply to this thread saying you're participating...I have your info...unless it's changed). You have until midnight Eastern on August 7th to sign up. On the 8th everyone who has registered will receive a list of all the other artists with whom they will be trading. You will then have until August 31st to create, print, and mail your artist trading cards to the other participants. (Keep postal rates in mind before you sign up as you are responsible for mailing the cards yourself. If we have enough participants in a particular country, we can group them together, otherwise it will be an international endeavor.) Each swap group will have no more than...um...we don't know the upper limit yet! LOL! We like big groups and have been hovering around 15 participants each month. You may create one ATC based on the theme and replicate it for everyone or you may create unique ATCs to send out. You may also use any combination of paper and digital you like for this swap.

I would love to play and I know what will be on the front of my card already. No contest. I don't get to hold her until she is four weeks old, so that means around 21st August. Anyone joining in the swap this month will see my new little girl.

Hmmm, so zen like because nothing makes me happier than swapping ATCs, lol. Better mark me down as playing, Becky!

Of great historic note, this will be my twelfth straight swap. I cannot believe that it will soon be a year since I struggled with my poor poor Andy Warhol rhinocerosous. (This can't be how you spell it but if you pronounce it phonetically it sounds Dr. Suessish and I kind of like it so not going to correct it). I wish I could say something like, my, how my skills have grown or my, I can't believe I didn't know how to cut or my, now that I have found Brand XXX Glue life has changed. But I can't. I can say I have a STUNNING ATC Album and the best bunch of ATC swappers on the planet. I can't scientifically prove the latter point. I just know it's true!

Since, I'm already two months behind, I'd better sit this one out. Between computer problems, printer problems, and just general life problems, I'm running behind on everything. I'll be doing my best to get the June/July cards in the mail soon.

Am I hallucinating or did I get an August card already? I better go look at it again. My hands were trembling opening it, it was so fragile and perfect and then the architect came to the door and off I had to go. Since then, dinner and Webkinz and putting Wretched Child to bed. I have to go look at this wonderful piece I got!

LOL, well, almost hallucinating. A beautiful crafted ATC but it is from Bonnie for July's swap--the theme could just as easily be August, though, since it reads Take Time for Friendship and Good Times which are certainly things that make me happy. Max is butting in saying tell her I think it looks good too and I have to put a happy face on :)

OMG, here I was planning on finally getting back to the ATC swap and I find I'm an hour and a half late! :eek: Talk about bad luck!

My life has been like the gong show for a few months now but I'm actually going to be staying home for a whole month and thought I'd join in before you all wrote me off for good. Was that enough whinging and whining Becky or do I need to grovel a little more!?

Pam! LOL! We understand. You work on your big monitor on these 2.5 x 3.5 little pieces of art, but sometimes, they don't look quite right once printed...print too small and all that. I'm learning to be a bit more spartan on the wordage.

And hey, I'm so excited! My idea for this month's swap finally came to me! But it won't be what you might expect! BWA HA HA!

Happiness Is...going to the craft store to get glitter for your ATC and coming out with a stack of autumn-colored Bo Bunny papers including goodies from The Shabby Princess!!! Yes, that happened to me yesterday! And yes, I'm glitterfying my ATC this month...I think it will satisfy the bling addiction that Kim has had lately!

Well my August cards are done and in their stamped envelopes, I hope to post today which means they will arrive in about a week.

I was reading on another site that September is `International ATC Month' - has anyone else heard that? I must try to do something special in honour of this. I so love ATC's :)

I think it's pretty cool that we're international among our quirk ATC group :)

and finished off my August cards, too. Happiness is getting my office back in some kind of order. It doesn't matter how simple or plain my cards are, it always looks like a hurricane hit the place when I am putting them together.

Unfortunately, some "happiness" got cut off some of the cards. If that isn't a Nevermore quirk, don't know what is.

Helen, as you may have guessed, Kim isn't the only one around here with a 'thing' for ravens. Ravens are much larger than crows, they have a wedge shaped tail (a crow's is fan shaped) and a curved bill. They're MUCH smarter and hold a place of honour in the west coast native spirituality and mythology...(hint) ;) i'm leading up to my September ATC here!!

Happiness is...a card from Mar! I'm glad your envelope arrived at my new place--it had markings all over it by the post office, but it made it. I realized that the address given for this swap was not correct--I had a part of the old address in there too--so it took longer to get here. Maybe that's why most are taking longer to get here, and I just now figured it out! Still hoping for Alice's package, as I know others have gotten theirs...
Anyway--it's such a sweet little card, and I thank you for it as well!

Denise: I love your busy bee. I took it out of the sleeve to feel the wings because they really printed out very 3d-ish but nope, they are definitely digital!

Mar: what a cute kid, lol! And THANK YOU FOR ALL THE PLASIC SLEEVES!!!!!

Alice and Helen: I am putting the cats side by side. They are both excellent and both cats look like they couldn't get more relaxed if they tried.

Kate: I loved the card and the way you presented it--very neat indeed and I wholeheartedly agree with the sentiment.

Ruth: I love the wee butterfly and the bow tied flowers.

Becky: Your card goes to join the first card I ever got from you. They are so lovely! The ATC itself reminds me of mine. Looks like we are on the same path.

Pam: I love Peanuts! I have the theme song on a tape. Just playing it makes me smile.
