I've seen some of you mention this site and I've visited it, but have to admit to being flummoxed by it!
Would someone please explain what it's all about, and if you're a member - what do you gain from it? How does it work?
I couldn't even find how you search the site for the different artists!
Sorry to be a complete numbskull!

LOL, don't feel bad. I've never been able to figure it out either!

That's two of us sitting in the corner, sucking our thumbs then! lol.;)

Kazadoodle has an account there so she would know.

It's weird because DAQ and DA are both digital art sites but I find DA a lot harder to relate too - there's a lot of Macabre/Fantasy/Goth stuff there which I'm not into where as DAQ has more of an altered/collage/scrapbook feel.

One thing though is a lot of people there offer downloadable brushes and photoshop goodies that are awesome.

The very name is off-putting, I have to say. It's often come up in searches but I haven't clicked on it, thinking I was going into some porn site!

I'm not sure what you mean by what's it all about - LOL - it's an art site and has some great resources as well for brushes and textures, which are worth looking at.

It originall started because one guy was making all these skins and stuff and there was a huge demand for it, so he created DA. Then he thought - why restrict it to skins - why not have all kinds of art - and voila, DA as it stands today is born (this guy has since been ousted and apparently it's not the same as it was - I don't know as I wasn't there when he was)

There is all kinds of art in there - so much that it would take a life time to look at it, but which time, there will be another life time's worth of art in there.

I find it non-supportive and a terrible place to be really - if you are in with the right people, it doesn't matter what kind of garbage you produce, it will be fabulous and all that jazz - I'm seriously thinking of deleting my account there.

I like goth/fantasy/horror art but sheesh, that's all that seems to be recognised over there (oh, and photography - lots of phography and anime) and there's so much more out there - ah well.

Robyn and i have posted there, as well, long back, and once in a while, if I have something that fits their unusual persona i go back...but people don't necessarily peruse the gallery over there....i will get comments maybe one or two the minute i post, then never again...

it is a bit discouraging. That is definitely a site that Maya and I and Robyn talked about when we were in the early stages of discussion for this site...lol!! It had something to do with what we DONT want it to be!! :)

I like some of the edgy goth stuff but a lot of that genre reminds me of teenage (male) fantasy material. One thing I liked about the scrapping scene is that people were very positive, wholesome and supportive whereas w/some of the other art scenes there's this dark/negative/haughty energy that I don't want to be participate in at this point in my life. Like if you tried to be positive and wholesome it just wouldn't be 'cool'.

Just happy to have found you guys.

I know what you mean bout that, debra....totally teenage fantasy...at least a lot of it is....there are some decent pieces, but I sure hope those people will eventually make there way over here with us...

This site is not really about being WIERD...it never was. Personally, and as I told Maya in the beginning, for me it has always been about how my art didn't necesarily fit in at Scrapping Sites always, and it wasn't always wierd enough to fit over at Deviant....That is what makes me feel like I'm a quirk...stuck in the middle...too left, then too right...

Now I've found the place I fit best! :)

Ah...I'm so glad you feel welcome, Lisa..and that you have found us...I sure hope that we are able to attract as many quirks as are out there aimlessly wandering and wondering where to go to post their art!! :)

Well, I'll chime in with the rest and say that I felt the name was a bit off-putting, to quote Madge, as well. And along with Madge and Michou, I could never figure that site out either. It sounds like it's not really up my alley anyway. But I sure like it here. There's a wonderful mix of different types of art here and it's true that the folk here are very congenial.
