View Full Version : Last night's drama

I alluded elsewhere to the drama at our house last night that kept me from my quirky creations - there was shooting on our block last night! It doesn't seem that anyone was actually hit, but someone drove by and fired six or seven shots at a little apartment complex that is just one house away from us! Needless to say, we were a little freaked out. We don't know much at this point, the cops didn't come to our house and we didn't want to add to the chaos outside, but we're hoping to talk with some of the neighbors at some point and see if anyone knows more. Hopefully it was just a weird random thing and not a sign of a bigger problem in our neighborhood. It's just hard to get your mind around something like that happening so close to home - I don't want to overreact when no one was hurt, but I'm definitely unnerved, so I appreciate the understanding quirky ears around here :)

I understand what you're going through. We had a random shooter who terrorized the road where I worked for several weeks. We were afraid to go to the office, but you do what you have to do.
I'm sorry you're going through this, and I hope they catch this madman soon. Thinking of you.

Wow Lisa! That's crazy! It's definitely not overreacting to feel unnerved. I'd be totally freaking out! LOL That's pretty scary stuff.
I sincerely hope it was an isolated incident and will pray that whatever crackpot did it is apprehended.

Lisa,
So glad that you and your family are ok. Sad to say but I know how you feel!
I hope they catch whoever the shooter is and get him off your street! I'll be praying that for you!

Nasty. Ugly. Urban life gone nuts. Pretty horrible when it so close. Hope they got the person who did it.

My Goodness how scary.
You can call your local police department, not 911, and ask about the shooting as a concerned neighbor. Just an idea.

You have every right to be unnerved--don't minimize that, because if you do, it might come back and bite you in the you-know-what. Stress is stress, you must do what you need to do to relieve it. It's a scary world in so many ways, but it's great that you have a community (quirky though it may be) that is here for you. Glad no one was physically hurt, but you know, really, your neighborhood WAS hurt, psychically. Just that continual shredding of our naivete and trust that we're safe...that's what gets me. We live by our little local airport that has commercial airliner fly into it and after 9/11, the sound of the planes in the flightpath over our house FREAKED ME OUT. And every once in awhile I still notice them and pray them over!

So scary, Lisa....
I saw a man stabbed to death at 5:00 in the afternoon at an atm...and then 2 years later i was laying in bed and heard a gun shot out side my bedroom window in the alley...the next morning there was a body there and police everywhere...
I had been on the phone with my future dh, and he said, it couldn't have been a gunshot, probably just a backfire!!
Well, I'm only telling you these things because as a Los Angelino, I am quite familiar with post traumatic disorder that accompanys an occurence like you just went through....
Try not to let fear freeze you....you have been so happy in Tucson! I will think about you and hoping you are able to sleep soundly and securely again, real soon!!

It's sad that so many have had similar experiences. Thanks for all the kind words :) And don't worry Christine, no plans to leave Tucson anytime soon or even the neighborhood for that matter - I'm thinking about getting a little more involved in our neighborhood association though, it seems like they need all the help they can get!

It is very sad but this does seem to be the norm today! We have a drive by shooting and double murder happen almost in front of our house. Our neighbor had their house shot at a few weeks ago (CHristine my husband said I heard a backfire too when I bolted up saying "What was that?") and the bullet went right through the front door and exploded in the wall. Luckily no one was hurt!
I can't let my girls go outside without an adult present because we also have a 3x convicted rapist living around the corner! YUCK!!!!
It is awful!
I am sorry to hear that this madness is now in your area! I guess it makes you more aware but it is awful, not feeling safe in your own neighborhood!

reading through all the messages made my hair stand up straight, this world is sick. I dont know what is wrong with people who think they have the right to harm another human being. I lived in Los angeles, dallas, and orlando, so I know what crime is. That is a big thing why I moved back home to holland. Well I can safely say, these things dont happen in holland, but over here it is changing too, way more crime then it used to be, but still very peacefull and safe.
Alison I cant believe a monster like that lives around your neigborhood, how scary. Well keep you all in my prayers.
god bless you all, nicole

We've had horrible things happen in our town, our county... but never so close to home. I know I would be a nervous wreck. So glad your family is safe, Lisa! I think joining the Neighborhood Association or even the Crime Watch would be a wonderful way to stay involved and informed about what's going on around you.
