Ever since I got my notebook and reloaded my programs, Adobe Bridge has been adding an .xmp file for every file I look at with Bridge. I have tried a few different options and even (in desparation) tried reading help to no avail. I don't want no stinking .xmp files. I don't need no stinking .xmp files. Can anyone help me drive a stake through the heart of the option that is forcing production of these files. ie. HOW DO I TURN IT OFF?

Thanks for the link--I found that one and read it all the way through and it does not tell me how to turn it OFF. Sigh, will have to go hang out at the Adobe Forums. But I do thank you for trying!!!

I have gone through every book/article and been trying to figure this out for you, but the best I have been able to discover is that you want those file extensions, but the extra files that it creates you can erase if you want.

Thanks, Jeanie. I have decided to go to the Forums to see what can be discovered. It never created the extra files before so I know I can tweak it. Unfortunately, the Forums want my password. When I give them my email so I can get my password they say I am not registered. When I try to register, they say I am registered. I love computers as much as the next person but sometimes I wanna heave mine off the second story porch. I wrote an email to sysop to ask for some help but Outlook burped and refused not only to send the email but to to save it. I am trying to calm myself before I go in for round two. Some times I just don't know if I have the strength! (I have erased the extra files but it is a pain in the whatever.)

Jeanie, thanks for all of your efforts! I have now switched off the sidecar preference in Adobe Camera Raw. I don't use Camera Raw and don't know if this was the problem but we shall see. Again, thank you!
