View Full Version : MAIL SWAP JULY 2006: By the Numbers
webchyck

The idea for our July ATC mail swap theme came to me while I was downloading images from Stock Exchange. I came across this really cool radio dial with the numbers all lit up, and I thought, "That's it! NUMBERS!" So, the only rule besides the ATC having to be 2.5 x 3.5 is that it has to have at least one number on it somewhere. I know you Quirksters will take this every which way, so I don't need to give you a NUMBERED list of suggestions!
If you would like to participate in this snail mail ATC swap, please send an email (mailto:webchyck@comcast.net)to me with the subject: JULY SWAP. Please include your name, mailing address and email address. You have until midnight Eastern on July 7th to sign up. On the 8th everyone who has registered will receive a list of all the other artists with whom they will be trading. You will then have until July 31st to create, print, and mail your artist trading cards to the other participants. (Keep postal rates in mind before you sign up as you are responsible for mailing the cards yourself. If we have enough participants in a particular country, we can group them together, otherwise it will be an international endeavor.) Each swap group will have no more than 9 participants (including yourself). You may create one ATC based on the theme and replicate it for everyone or you may create nine unique ATCs to send out. You may also use any combination of paper and digital you like for this swap.
If anyone has any questions, please don't hesitate to enumerate them right here in this thread. Can't wait to see what everyone comes up with!
(Aren't you glad I didn't go with a 4th of July/Independence Day/red white and blue theme? I know you are!)
EDIT: Need more information about Artist Trading Cards? We have an ARTicle in our Resource section with all the scoop (http://www.digitalartquirks.com/articles/article_atc_becky_march2006.htm)! Check it out!

Oh Becky, I am soooo very glad that you decided to forgo the obivious July theme. I am as patriotic as the next person but I didn't exactly relish the idea of working on the red, white and blue colors again.:)

Well I FINALLY got June's ATC's made and printed so I don't feel so guilty about signing up for July's! LOL Sometimes I struggle with making mine (I get lazy when I actually have to get my hands dirty LOL) but getting everyone else's in the mail is just too fun! Makes it all worthwhile :)

Okay, how did I miss this? I didn't get my notification! GRRRR!!! Robyn, you utterly slay me! Do you know that I was actually thinking that an INXS song I was hearing on the radio would be perfect for us this week with all the "8" words in it. You're under my skin, girl! I don't even know the name of that song, but it was cracking me up and making me think of you, which was really COOL!
Okay everyone, today is the last day to sign up for the July mail swap. Email me (mailto:webchyck@comcast.net) by midnight eastern or lose out on a GR8 time! (name, address, email--okay?)

You have too much time on your hands! (Oh wait...that is a St6 song!--okay that doesn't really QUITE work, but you get what I mean, dontcha?!) Actually, I'm glad to have the lyrics, because now I can sing along--they play it a lot on Sirius Classic Rewind, my favorite station!

All I need now are envelopes and stamps and I can't get those until at least Monday, when the post office opens again. Then it takes at least a week for post to get to the USA and Canada. You should still get them before the end of July :)

Wow, Judith, you are on the ball! I haven't got mine created yet. I have a day penciled in to do them next week, though. And I have a great idea...that I hope I can implement, to make them...shall we say...interactive!

I can't draw, I never have been able to, so I have to have an idea in my head and put it directly onto the screen. My card has a story behind it, so I will enclose a little note to explain in a little more detail than I put on the back of the card. I have done only one version, not a series, but I am very happy with it and I think you will all like it too.

Wow ladies,
I can't belive that you all have gotten so far on this latest numbers card. I did manage to 'almost' make one but decided to scrap it after spending way too many hours working on it. So now it is back to the ole drawing board with another idea that I hope will gel this time.:)
BTW how long does it take for mail from the USA to get delivered to England?
I could ask my son in law since he is from England but with emails he never sends mail.LOL

It usually takes 6-10 days for something to get from here to uSA. The envelopes are ready (I found some old air-mail envelopes) the notes are all written and, tucked inside them, are your cards - I hope you enjoy the packaging. Now all I need are stamps!
I am intrigued by Becky's idea of an interactive card - I have an idea how that could be done. I can't wait to see what you've all done, I'm getting quite excited by it all.

I'm finished the cards and on to the envelopes! We have a son, DIL and kiddies coming from the UK on Saturday (for 3 weeks) so thats my actual deadline...nothing will get done after that! Back to the old digi board.
Oh, and grandchild #6 was born yesterday in Salisbury, England. It's a healthy little boy (5 boys and 1 girl - we need more estrogen in this family!):) :D

Congratulations, Kate, on the new grandbaby! You must be thrilled! I am going to the post office to mail my packages off to all you July swappers tomorrow. Yes, they are packages. In order to make my cards as INTERACTIVE as I wanted them to be, I had to include a little something extra. Tee hee! I hope they get to all of you in one piece!

I was just telling Becky the other night about my awesome organizational skills (ROFL!). Well, while at the doctor the other day with my son, I finished writing all of the cards and addresses. They I knew I had brought them all back home just waiting to put stamps on and who knows where I set them all! After searching high and low last night, they have appeared ... right next to my computer (on top of my scanner). Now isn't that where it seems like I would have set them? Anyway, I need to get them in the mail. I think I'll just stick 2 stamps on the Canadian ones and 3 on the one to England. OR ... I could actually go to the post office and find out the going rate but what fun would that be?

This is a wabbit with a difference - look for the numbers. I did this as a play while I was thinking of a theme. I like the way that the lizard skin layer, magnified to maximum, looks like the pattern on an Easter egg. He's a modern wabbit, I gave him a diamond earring!
This is NOT the card I sent out.
