View Full Version : MAIL SWAP OCTOBER 2007: Stars and Garters

Oh my stars and garters! My reminder popped up to post the swap for October and I haven't even mailed September's yet. Deja-vu on last month, huh? Oh well! I've been busy!

This month's theme was suggested by....I can't remember! But ever since I heard that phrase "oh my stars and garters" here, I think I've heard it a dozen more times. Isn't that the way it goes?

So, I guess this one is totally open to interpretation! Have fun!

If you want to play this month, send me an email (webchyck@comcast.net)with the subject: OCTOBER SWAP. Please include your name, mailing address and email address (for you veterans, just reply to this thread saying you're participating...I have your info...unless it's changed). You have until midnight Eastern on October 7th to sign up. On the 8th everyone who has registered will receive a list of all the other artists with whom they will be trading. You will then have until October 31st to create, print, and mail your artist trading cards to the other participants. (Keep postal rates in mind before you sign up as you are responsible for mailing the cards yourself. If we have enough participants in a particular country, we can group them together, otherwise it will be an international endeavor.) Each swap group will have no more than...um...we don't know the upper limit yet! LOL! We like big groups and have been hovering around 15 participants each month. You may create one ATC based on the theme and replicate it for everyone or you may create unique ATCs to send out. You may also use any combination of paper and digital you like for this swap.

If anyone has any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. We do have a lot of information about Artist Trading Cards (http://www.digitalartquirks.com/forum/../articles/article_atc_becky_march2006.htm) in an an ARTicle in our Resource section that might answer any questions you have.

Can't wait to see what you all come up with for this one!

 I'm affraid that I'm not in this month. However I found a page of the translation I really didn't get the tone or sound what it means when somebody says that. I can't translate it to a Dutch proverb, so no idea :( what to do with it.

 I can't translate it to a Dutch proverb, so no idea :( what to do with it.

By way of thinking to translate this, I thought of so many more euphimisms I wonder that anyone EVER learns English! Things like -- My heavens!...Oh, my gosh! .... Gee whiz! .... Heavens to Betsy! ... Jiminy Whillikers!... I don't know why we can't simply say "I'm surprised and astounded!"

Count me in, Becky. My stars and garters! I haven't the faintest notion what to do with it, but maybe I'll have an epiphany.

Oh yes please count me in as always, I hate to miss out. I will be on holidays without a puta (you guys would call it vacation I think) for all of October but I will send this one on with November's. I too have no idea but I know the Quirkspiration will come LOL :)

Yes, Becky ... I KNOW I owe you the last 3 days of the book. You know I am scared to finish anything!!!! It's on the list ... THIS weekend!!!!! I swear.

And now for the puta comment ... a laptop puta! Could be a good name for a gentleman's club with wifi!

The two cards were stuck together when I opened the envie, and I wondered why the S&G was labeled Masks--I was looking all over to understand your interpretation of masks, and thought I must be low on Quirk at the moment. However, I was delightfully surprised later on when I noticed the actual mask card had seperated from the S&G, and realized there were two cards--then it all made sense ;) But you are way ahead of the game by send out the S&G before the addies are given--wow!

to Judy and Ruth for stars and garter cards received today! The accompanying history of the Order of the Garter was very interesting, Judy. Ruth, your lovely card narrowly escaped the post office machine, the envelope was torn open, card bent and beads hanging out, but all seemed to be present for your very clever presentation! Thanks to you both.

seems like the card got yanked out! there was a wee note explaining that Ruth and I did ours together! That is why there are two, so to speak. I was responsible for mailing and it sounds like I might not have done it carefully enough although I did tape down the flap etcetera. I just hope everyone gets theirs--now I am worried.

After reading your note, I took the card out of its pocket DUH - and realized it was a centerfold, and it was signed by both on the back. Very clever idea, you two! Even a bit of stitching yet already! Just needed a bit more padding to suit the PO! I hope everyone else's make it OK.

Judy, I've just finished reading front and back of the information included--I had researched the saying myself when the theme originally came out, cuz I was so curious--but I thought it was interesting to see this again--and it's only right that you should make a card and incorporate the English history--thanks much!

Bev--so bright and showy--how fun--thanks much to you as well!

Hooray for Quirk mail!

Got your cards! Judith, the entire family read both pages of info on the Order. I didn't need to see your name--I knew it was you right away! Lovely piece and I just loved the info.

Donna, cute cute piece with one heck of a quote. I have to admit I only looked at it briefly, it will get more love and attention when it is put to bed but that isn't my fault because you sent it with your fat chunky page and I couldn't get over it long enough to really suss out the ATC.

This is going to be relatively short--I am hoping to get some scrapping done tonight but I promised Ruth I would say something.

Firstly, after Indy Bev's post, I do hope that people are actually getting our cards. There are two--they are just together. I think that this is the first time there has been a double card (at least since I have been swapping) and of course we wouldn't do just one or everybody would feel ripped off!

Ruth wants me to tell the story of the card making (I think she just wants to appear mature and focussed in contrast to me) and I will do so in deadly detail later. But in the meanwhile, I did want to send out feelers to see if the card is arriving!

"Appear" being very key here! However, I do think the Raven Ramble would be the most entertaining way to explain our dual card endeavours.
