View Full Version : My PC is breaking down

Virtual memory ground to a halt. I use PSP (why is it such a memory hog, then?) at home, and can hardly open a three-layered ATC without having the hard-drive grind to a halt. Storage space - yes - external drives hold all the digital stash. But working PC regarding digital - no.

It happened slowly, I should have known better. I figure life is telling me something, but can't be bothered working it out. :o

I do have a new laptop to create on, so it's not all a disaster - just a slight hiccup whilst I work out whether I want to lug an eHD around with it, or use portable storage media to transfer as needed.

Losing the PC for a while must be the ultimate nightmare for a digi-quirk, no? But it could have been a lot worse. And we know now what my hubbie can get me for my birthday, lol. :p

I fear I'm not far behind you! LOL! However DH is NOT amused when I mention the prospect of another new computer because of this all-consuming hobby! LOL!

Funny...I was congratulating myself at first on finding such a cheap hobby and then proceeded to drop $1500 on a new laptop and Photoshop! The old laptop was fine w 4x6 picture edits but lost it w/large LO's and proceeded to run out of hard drive space.

At least you have the laptop but the eHD sounds like a pain...

I currently have a desktop computer and an eHD. I fear for my sanity if I get a laptop because I currently can't scrap at work. The computer here is old and is on dial up. If I could take my home computer with me there's gonna be trouble! LOL!

I thought I was going to put my head through a wall last year dealing with the lack of RAM on my old desktop...but fortunately DS's computer went south on us, and I splurged on a new desktop for me, giving him my old one. Couldn't be happier with my one year old HP if I tried! Pentium 4, 1 GB RAM, 250 GB HD. DVD Burner with LightScribe. No external drive any longer! I have EVERYTHING I use on this puppy! With DVD back-ups, of course. I've got every kind of media card slot that exists on this thing plus multiple USB 2.0 ports. I am a happy camper! I wish everyone this same happiness...I truly do!

I'm shooting for December for a new computer for me. I've got quite the plan cooked up on how to get it!

Going to make your hubby "go without" for the rest of the year until and unless he coughs up a new computer? (tee hee!)

Now that's an even better plan! LOL! Actually we have to get a new work computer and I'm going to offer to "donate" mine and get a new one for home (for MOI!).

Well, mine is only two years old, if that - and with every media card and doodangle imaginable also. But obviously not enough Virtual for PSP's liking at all - can't even deal with 20 layers (okay, so I like layers) without grinding to a halt.

EHD was bought to save myself having to write off to DVD - all the time. That way I have backup quicker, and the EHD is reasonably portable - if I could be bothered to move it that is. Unplugging get's a challenge as one get's older, shall we suggest?

My next request for birthday is another EHD - more portable this time - plug and play - with digital stash. And one of these days, a new desktop.
