View Full Version : ATC Mail Swap May 2008: Underwear!

I cannot help it - Kim's suggestion of underwear cracked me up, so I just had to select it! Whether you call them skivvies, tighty-whities, panties, briefs, thongs, undies, jockeys, bikinis, boxers, unmentionables, granny-pants, intimates, knickers, Reg Grundys, drawers, y-fronts, longjohns or any other slang terms - I know you can have loads of fun with this one!

If you want to play this month, send me an email (pkeflin@hotmail.com)with the subject: MAY ATC SWAP. Please include your name, mailing address and email address (for you veterans, just reply to this thread saying you're participating...I have your info...unless it's changed). You have until midnight Eastern on MAY 7th to sign up. On the 8th everyone who has registered will receive a list of all the other artists with whom they will be trading. You will then have until MAY 31st (um, or later!) to create, print, and mail your artist trading cards to the other participants. (Keep postal rates in mind before you sign up as you are responsible for mailing the cards yourself. If we have enough participants in a particular country, we can group them together, otherwise it will be an international endeavor.) Each swap group will have no more than...um...we don't know the upper limit yet! LOL! We like big groups and have been hovering around 8-10 participants each month. You may create one ATC based on the theme and replicate it for everyone or you may create unique ATCs to send out. You may also use any combination of paper and digital you like for this swap.
If anyone has any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. We do have a lot of information about Artist Trading Cards (http://www.digitalartquirks.com/articles/article_atc_becky_march2006.htm) in an ARTicle in our Resource section that might answer any questions you have.
Looking forward to another swap with you all!! Okay, who's in?

I know I am two months behind (officially one month since I never signed up for April) but I am good for it. I will not wait until the end of May to mail all of them; I hope to have March and April done this weekend. But I will be on time for May. Promise.

Lovin' the response I'm seeing to this swap - you newbies will have fun - just remember that's all this is, is fun! On Thursday, I'll be sending out the mailing lists, so if you haven't already, either email or PM me with the info and I'll add you in!

As I'm getting back to business here, I'd like to get back to swapping. Still playing catch-up (catsup? ketchup?), so they will be there. I hope you will think good things come in small packages. *grin*

I'm still waiting on one more mailing address (persnickitychick's) - as soon as I hear from her, I'll send out the mailing lists - but don't think you have to wait to create your art! Enjoy the theme!

Yipee .... my first attempt at an ATC has been completed and gone out to you all today. Hope you like the card but don't mention the reverse which I know is 'not quite right'. I'll own up, I've never been good at cut and paste, so the result is some cards are wonky, others tacky, and I narrowly escaped sticking my fingers together three times yesterday afternoon. So don't mention the reverse.

I must tell you that my first ATC started my blogging career such as it is. I wrote pages and pages and pages on my poor ATC. To this day there is a little clunk in the back of my brain that signals "girding my loins" whenever I start one. I do think I have improved and no doubt you will too. There are tips for nearly everything (my favourite cutting tip is from Ruth who advised me that it would go so much better if I held my knife right side up). Don't be afraid to ask if there is anything in particular that is making you nuts. To this day I am miserable about adhesives and I believe that Mod Podge is the work of the devil.

Hey guys! Sorry I'm late! Just now discovered there was a "Thank You" thread here and wanted to send my gratitude your way, as well. This has been so much fun and a learning experience for me as well. Hope to make next month's even better! Disclaimer-still getting to know everyone so not sure on everyone's actual names . . . With that said Thanks to pixeldigger for the pair of bloomers, Pam and Ruth for the witty pear (pair), Denise for the gorgeous collage of things, Ann for the Vintage beauties, mizamigo for the good advice-teehee! :p

ruthpics and pampie, your card is definitely unique. Why do I envision you two giggling like crazy?

Denise, pink peonies and lace. Zowie!

Judith, I howled.

Amber, I have no idea how you got that finnish (not the gold gel but the clear streaked). Marvellous!

Victoria: good maternal advice! I shall pin it to Max's bulletin board!

Ann, wow! laughing at this too (is it an English thing?)

I was finished my cards.

I decided I need to do some sewing this month. The last time was under Ruth's wing. Not a bad thing because I don't sew. First thing I had to do was score a sewing machine. My mother was THRILLED to give me hers (it does straight stitch. Period.) and then quite puzzled when I told her what I needed it for, lol.

So, a couple of weeks to get the machine. Then a week or so to get thread. A couple of weeks to do the card. Printed it out and loved the paper I used. A couple more weeks to gird my loins to approach the sewing machine.

Did it this morning at 5:00. It took quite a while to thread the needle (I wear trifocals and no focal distance was working. I tried setting up a magnifying mirror etcetera but that didn't work either. If I held the thread near the end, my fingers caused shadows and I couldn't see and if I held them too far away, the thread would "bend" and not go through the hole. Like I said, it took quite a while to thread the needle. And, lo and behold, lo and behold, I whipped through the sewing! It was fun!

Put it all away (machine weighs just a little bit more than my car but wrestled it off my desk). Sat down and started writing out the envelopes. I have nine cards. There are eleven people swapping. Even if I throw my card into the pot, one card short.

Determined to do it, though. I start packing today so who knows if I will even be able to find the sewing machine in a couple of days?

Hopefully, they will start landing in mailboxes near you very shortly.

This is like getting a movie on DVD - you can watch the movie and enjoy it, but it's not until you watch all the extra features that you really appreciate all that went into the filming!

Only you, Kim, can describe threading a sewing machine in such a descriptive way. I felt like I was there.

Next time you try to thread the machine, put a piece of white paper (index card) behind the needle so you can see the needle hole a bit better.

Can't wait to see the ATC and that stitching.

Persnicketychick, I am worried that you didn't get my card-- I mailed them all at the same time. Please let me know if it comes soon. If it has gone astray, I promise I will do you another one but not for about 6 weeks (so sorry! moving in less than two weeks and then off to the cottage for two weeks).
