My local altered art group is having an altered CD swap, and I've posted one of mine.
http://www.digitalartquirks.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=5432&cat=502
It's possible to slap an address and stamp on the back of one of these and mail them. I'm wondering is anyone here at quirks would like to do a CD swap. They make delightful little pieces d'art for shelf or desk when placed on the small easels available in dollar stores!

Good, Kimmie. We'll have to see how much interest this generates, and go from there. I'm so glad to see you here at quirks, and hope it offers an avenue for your considerable talent!

Hi Bev
I'm not much good with paint and paste but I'm sure I could have a go at this if you don't all laugh too much at my offering. :o
Am I too late, as I've only just seen this?

It's been up for a while, Ann, but we're sort of waiting to see what interest it draws. And, by the way, a good bit of mine is done digitally, with just some embellishments added. When they're sent through the mail, they need to be flat and VERY well glued!

I have been checking the internet for inspiration. Number of sites show different styles of Altered CD's. All CD's are a combination of digital and elements. I am still interested in participating.:D

Well if we're talking digital I'm definitely in. Just let me know when.

This thread has been knocking about for quite some time. There appear to be 5 of us who have expressed interest. Since it was my suggestion, I'll set a cut-off date of 11/1. If everyone interested will PM me with their snail mail address, I'll then get them to everybody on the list. We can allow ourselves until 11/30 to get our CDs made and in the mail .
So far, we have:
Ann
Kimmie
Amber
Donna
Bev

Bev, I would love to join in this CD exchange.
Do you have a "theme" for this yet?
indybev
10-23-2008, 05:07 PM
I've added you to the list, Victoria! As far as theme goes, I'd like to leave it open so that everyone can do what they enjoy most. For some, it's vintage, for some contemporary. Let's make it a joyful experience!

I have scoured my desk disaster and cannot find my list of addresses from the arch swap, so I need snail mail addresses PM'd to me from Amber, Kimmie and Victoria. I have Donna's and Ann's. Once I get those, I'll get complete address list out to everybody. Grab your CDs and alter away!

Bev, I made an altered CD this weekend for a trial run - the glue is not sticking. What glue should I use? Help!
I currently use Pioneer all-purpose glue stick. "Dark ages" I know!
indybev
11-09-2008, 06:24 PM
Kimmie - I use UHU glue stick, but first I lightly sand the CD to rough it up a bit, and I've had no problem. I run a brayer (or what I use for a brayer) over it to make sure it is tightly adhered. Good luck! (and for some solid embellishments I used E-6000)

I took my CD's to the post office today guys. If anyone is wondering about postage, those in the States were 62 cents, and Ann's was 91 cents. When all was said and done, I did make envelopes for them. The one I got in swap came through the mail just with the address glued to the back, but I was chicken. I'd used an embellishment or two and I was afraid they'd come off.

Oh wow Bev, I'm so excited and I can't wait for yours to arrive.
I've done the front of mine and stuck an image on to each CD, just the backs to do now.
In the UK we have something called PVA glue and it's pretty heavy duty stuff so I'm hoping that is going to work.
Mine could be in the post by Monday.

So looking forward to receiving more art in the mail. This is so much more fun than bills. :-)
I just picked up new ink cartridges, so I'm ready to print. With any luck, I'll have them out in a few days. This is the first time I've ever done a CD, so it's a pretty interesting experience.

Hey gals- just finished formatting mine and am keeping my fingers crossed that I have enough ink in the printer (embarrassing I know but funds are a little low right now-:o). Then I'm off to glue and embellish. Thanks for the tips on the glue-was wondering about that.

I received your altered CD in the mail today.
OMGosh!!! Wonderful! I really didn't know what to do with making an altered CD, so I waited for yours to appear. What a pleasant surprise, and now I know what to do in creating this altered art.
Thank you so much for starting this swap. I love it!!!
Now I just have to think of something to equal (may not be possible) your altered CD.

Bev, what an absolutely wonderful CD. And the envelope is just amazing. You did make that, didn't you?
I'm running behind because of the time spent here at the hospital with my mom, but I'm still planning on getting mine in the mail this weekend.

Thanks for kind comments on the CD's, my swap friends! Yes, Donna, I made the envelopes. You probably recognize the art from a while back. I had great fun with this swap, and hope you all enjoyed it as much as I did.

Just an update quirksters!
I have had your cd's done for a few days now but haven't been able to make it out to the post office. Been in bed with a nasty bronchial cold and don't dare set foot outside in the 25 degree weather. Gonna see if I can get my Mom to take them for me tomorrow. I'm so excited to get them out to you all. Hope you like them!

Did everyone get bogged down with the CD's. To date, I've only received Ann's. No big deal, I just want to make sure none have gone astray at the post office!

Between illnesses and the holidays, I just haven't got a chance to finish mine up. All I need to do is the gluing, so it won't take long. Sorry for the delay; it's just been one of those months. :-)

It is so special to have these works of art to remind me of the wonder of the cyber-connection of common interest we share, no matter we're scattered far snd wide! I'm anxiously watching for Donna's to complete our swap. It was fun! Thanks to all of you for participating.

Thanks to all you gals! It is such fun and what a treat to have these beautiful creations for my little quirkster collection.
Wish I could participate more often but I have a very full and crazy life (from which I draw my inspiration, so it's not all bad but . . .) and must except my limitations no matter how hard that is for me. LOL!

Glad they arrived safely. I've put mine in a little Kolo album that I can display on the table along with my other swap books. Every now and then, I have to pick them up and go through them, marveling at my DAQ friends' talent and generosity.
Bev, thanks for putting together such a great swap.
