View Full Version : ATC Mail Swap January 2009: A Tip of the Hat

Time to put on your thinking caps :) This month's theme is all about Hats! Bonnets, fedoras, sombreros, pill box, cowboy, dunce caps, beanies, mortar boards, helmet, straw, felt, party, coonskin, beret, baseball cap, swim cap, top hat - and the list is endless - if you're having a hard time deciding, put all the names in a hat, and pull one out!

If you want to play this month, send me an email (pkeflin@hotmail.com)with the subject, or a PM (Private Message): JANUARY ATC SWAP. Please include your name, mailing address and email address (for you veterans, just reply to this thread saying you're participating...I have your info...unless it's changed). You have until midnight Eastern on JANUARY 7th to sign up. On the 8th (I'll be back in town by then!) everyone who has registered will receive a list of all the other artists with whom they will be trading. You will then have until January 31st (um, or later!) to create, print, and mail your artist trading cards to the other participants. (Keep postal rates in mind before you sign up as you are responsible for mailing the cards yourself. If we have enough participants in a particular country, we can group them together, otherwise it will be an international endeavor.) Each swap group will have no more than...um...we don't know the upper limit yet! LOL! We like big groups, though we have been hovering around 8-10 participants each month. You may create one ATC based on the theme and replicate it for everyone or you may create unique ATCs to send out. You may also use any combination of digital and hybrid you like for this swap.
If anyone has any questions, please don't hesitate to ask. We do have a lot of information about Artist Trading Cards (http://www.digitalartquirks.com/articles/article_atc_becky_march2006.htm) in an ARTicle in our Resource section that might answer any questions you have.
Looking forward to another swap with you all!! Okay, who's in?

Oh Lordy!
I did mine a couple of weeks ago, then slowed down and still need to do the back and print! Do you print yours Ann? If so, do you use any particular card?
Looking forward to the card in the post!

Yorkshire Lass, I was so happy to get your card this morning, it has made me smile when all about is grey and dreary. Thank you very much indeed, I love it.

Lumi I just make a new page in photoshop (or which ever application you use) measuring 5 inch instead of the 2.5 required for the ATC. Slide the ATC into this, the 2.5 left is what I print my credits etc on.

You'd think you could then just fold the new page in half and glue BUT that doesn't work.

Just cut in between the two parts and then glue back together. I just use good quality photo paper and PVA glue.

Judith, I'm so glad the ATC made you smile.

I always give equal attention to the back as the front, to me they are equally as important and I create them together. I open 2 files in PSE - same size. I can then drag the same b/g or element over. I don't just use the back for credits (nothing wrong with that if you do), but I usually carry over elements and b/g.

Then I flatten both files. Create a new document at 6x4 and drag them both in. Then I print at 6x4 which is always cheaper and easier. I think it was Becky put me on to this idea and for me it works really well :)

I think it was Becky put me on to this idea and for me it works really well :) My method as well! Then I cut out and adhere both back and front, and most often sandwich some cardstock between the two (sturdier, I guess) for a finished look...

Pam that is a great idea about sandwiching cardstock, I hadn't thought of that. It would certainly give a more `finished' look, not so flimsy which is how I always think mine look. :)

My `Tip of the Hat' cards will all be posted tomorrow.

I mailed mine out yesterday! :)

I'm very curious to see how all of you did your printing. I just printed the front onto photo paper, then flipped it over and printed the back on the same piece. I had to fiddle with the placement a little to get the back to print in exactly the right position, but it was easier than I expected. Do most of you print the front & back separately to give the cards more weight?

I also did not put credits on the back of the card -- is that standard? I will certainly include them when posting to a gallery.

Mine is in the envelopes, ready to post, but I am still not fit enough to go to the post Office on my own yet, so they will be in the post as soon as possible. I have stamps for the UK ones, so they can go in the box tomorrow, the US ones will be a bit later

Thanks, Lumi! Glad you like it!

And yes, the journaling is my own, although I borrowed the style of an author named Brian Andreas, whose work I find really interesting and sometimes very beautiful. Here's a link to his top ten 'stories.'
