Hello and welcome to the official DAQ Poetry Slam thread!
That's right. You heard me. A Poetry Slam.
Don't know what that means? You can check out this wikipedia article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slam_poetry)to find out more, but in a nutshell, slam poetry is a type of performance-based art where poets recite their poems at events called 'slams' and often in a 'hip-hop' style delivery (but not necesarily.) There are no rules regarding the topic or content of the poem itself but slam poetry is often more honest, gutsy, and gritty than your typical academic stuff.
Okay so if a Poetry Slam is a performance based event then how on earth can we do it here on a digital art website? Easy! We simply replace the performance aspect with an artistic aspect. Rather than perform our poems we will illustrate them. Sounds fun, right!?
In the future we may throw out some themes or variations and have 'special event' slams. But for now you can just consider this an 'Open Mic'. So have fun with it! Be honest. Be thought-provoking. Be silly. Be anything you want! Just pour your heart out into your poem and then put it together in whatever artistic format you like. You know the drill after that: upload to the appropriate gallery and come back here to leave us a link!
If you're unsure about this and looking for inspiration, I highly recommend visiting the website of a real slam poet. One of our current faves is Mighty Mike McGee (http://www.mikemcgee.net/poetry.html). There are also several links to individual sites in that wikipedia article I referenced above. If you're interested in reading about how this whole crazy idea came to be you can follow our thought process here in this thread (http://www.digitalartquirks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=26)started by happyrobyn.
Alright folks, time to get slammin'!
