Hello and welcome to the official DAQ Poetry Slam thread!

That's right. You heard me. A Poetry Slam.

Don't know what that means? You can check out this wikipedia article (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Slam_poetry)to find out more, but in a nutshell, slam poetry is a type of performance-based art where poets recite their poems at events called 'slams' and often in a 'hip-hop' style delivery (but not necesarily.) There are no rules regarding the topic or content of the poem itself but slam poetry is often more honest, gutsy, and gritty than your typical academic stuff.

Okay so if a Poetry Slam is a performance based event then how on earth can we do it here on a digital art website? Easy! We simply replace the performance aspect with an artistic aspect. Rather than perform our poems we will illustrate them. Sounds fun, right!?

In the future we may throw out some themes or variations and have 'special event' slams. But for now you can just consider this an 'Open Mic'. So have fun with it! Be honest. Be thought-provoking. Be silly. Be anything you want! Just pour your heart out into your poem and then put it together in whatever artistic format you like. You know the drill after that: upload to the appropriate gallery and come back here to leave us a link!

If you're unsure about this and looking for inspiration, I highly recommend visiting the website of a real slam poet. One of our current faves is Mighty Mike McGee (http://www.mikemcgee.net/poetry.html). There are also several links to individual sites in that wikipedia article I referenced above. If you're interested in reading about how this whole crazy idea came to be you can follow our thought process here in this thread (http://www.digitalartquirks.com/forum/showthread.php?t=26)started by happyrobyn.

Alright folks, time to get slammin'!

POUTINE
That crazy French Canadian stuff
french fries
and curdled cheese
add some gravy please
don't get out the vinegar for this
yuck
sounds like a word that rhymes with Angina
or even punt
but let's not go there now.
Make sure the curds are fresh
or you've got a problem
Stop the poutine truck
in the land of Newfs
or where the Scottish are new
you can even go West
but just a little
McDonalds and Burger King will do
Don't ask an American
he'll just laugh
'cause it's so funny
just to hear the word.
Say it
POO
TEEN!
Unless you're a k-bekker!
ça va faire une maudite poutine
It's a hell of a mess!

Funny Robyn,
Wicked Robyn,
Makes Becky wet her pants.
She ruins the chair,
her computer chair,
and now she rants and rants.
Oh, funny Robyn,
Wicked Robyn,
You did it for a laugh.
Go back to your post,
you silly girl.
I'm going to find dry pants.
