I thought I'd start a thread where we can post links to fun & inspiring websites. I'm always up for mindless web browsing when bored.
Here's one I just found called Il Bloggo (http://www.ihanna.nu/blog/). She made these fun Fruit Girls ATCs (http://www.ihanna.nu/blog/?p=399).
iHanna is a Swedish artist and her site has a lot of fun links to check out...

Art-E-Zine has all these wonderful little pages but they're tucked away... Here is a page of digital links (http://www.art-e-zine.co.uk/gillianlinks.html) from sitemistress Gillian Allen. Mostly Photoshop brushes and tutorials.

Outside the Margins (http://www.outsidethemargins.com/freebies.html) is a web shop w/a whole page of freebie ephemera images and ATC backgrounds. (As if we don't have enough already!).

Here's an ATC artist's site that I like:
Ed's Artist Trading Cards (http://www.geocities.com/edsatc/)
This is a totally awesome site which deals with illustrated and thematic alphabets and postage stamps!
Alphabetilately (http://alphabetilately.com/)
This is totally fun on-line drawing, er, thing! LOL - create art using bits and pieces from Picasso's art

My house is a mess. I skipped breakfast. I finally got out of my pajamas. But I've had a blast visiting all of these cool websites. Loved the "Outside the Margins" site -- the freebies were awesome.

Is there some secret to how to download from the various sites? I can't seem to find a download button. Particularly on Flickr. found cool stuff but am too dumb to know how to get it. I'm like the mouse looking at the cheese in the mirror.
mishou
05-04-2006, 01:52 PM
LOL Ursula
I can't speak for other sites but for Flickr, when you're looking at something you like, click on the link that says "all sizes" that you should see right above the image. This will take you to the largest size view of the photo. Then just right click and save. There's no actualy 'downloading' that happens. Just saving. Make sense?
SteinwaysMom
05-05-2006, 02:27 AM
Yeah a lot of sites you have to right click and save (Art-E-Zine, StockXChange, Flickr). Very few sites do downloads and zips and stuff. When you bring it into you imaging software remember to resize it as 300 dpi so it won't get all wacked out when you copy it into your LO.

Oh my gosh, I shouldn't have read this thread. You guys are completely enabling me to NOT do other stuff that needs doing so that I may peruse these cool websites. I must go look now. How could you do this to me? How? How? (she says with much sarcasm as she runs to the first link...)

Yes, this thread is an evil conspiracy to drastically reduce the productivity of the American workforce. They say deleting spam costs the US workforce billions of dollars. Wait till they study quirking!
This is Rice Freeman-Zachary's website. She writes articles for Legacy and does the coolest altered clothing. You gotta check it out. www.voo-doo-cafe.com

I love those Prudence Mapstone 'scumbles' (http://www.knotjustknitting.com/whatis.htm)cause if everything is uneven it would still look ok. It would be fun to make little ones for altered projects or even scan them and have little digiscumbles.
Freestyle is kind of still straight scrapping but quirky - hey the more the merrier!

What great websites. Love the brushes. Here are a couple of my favorites.
Creative Collage, Kelly Angard's look at collage techniques. Right now, she's doing a series of exercises on letting the inner artist free. http://www.creativecollage.blogspot.com/
SheepSpace, Chriss Coleman's look at fonts, scrapbooking, etc. I especially like the way she groups fonts for different projects. Also, she has some interesting links. http://sheepspace.ca/

Ok Ladies- this thread should have a warning blinkie attached!!!!! What terrific links - I need a quirk 12 step program or an action that would clone me - so that I could spend all day perusing these links and altering everything , and my clone could do all my horrible motherly duties. Wretched housework!! (not that I ever do it) lol. I just devise ways to get my kids to do it - (bwah hahah) Usually they are in trouble - so that is no problem.
Oh - need to get back to reality- -- but why? just a few more links- the diaper will hold a bit more- the kids can have self service food??

I just got done ironing! LOL--I wouldn't let myself get back on the computer until my three khaki items were ironed. Now, I get my reward! tee hee! But, I really, really, really hate ironing--so much so that for awhile I bought NOTHING that would require it of me. DH sends his things to the dry cleaners now. Where they belong.
happyrobyn
06-16-2006, 12:14 AM
LOL Becky! My DH's family came to visit a few weeks ago and my brother-in-law asked me if he could use the iron. I actually had to go look for it! He was cracking up. I found the ironing board in the garage and the iron on the top shelf of the laundry room - caked in laundry room dust! ROFL! Did I mention that I work in shorts and a t-shirt ... barefoot every day?! And DH sends everything to the cleaners if it might need to be ironed. I don't do ironing!

Found a cool brush site tonight that I'd never visited before: The 5th Muse (http://www.strangeangels.net/)
I found it through PhotoshopSupport.com's free brush page (http://www.photoshopsupport.com/tools/brushes.html) which is cool in it's own right.

Okay, this one's not quirky, but it may end up being the one site you use most often. This online font browser catalogs all the fonts on your computer and lets you view the fonts in various sizes. I love it. Go to: http://www.stcassociates.com/lab/fontbrowser.html
Donna this is great thankyou - now I can disable the font preview thing in PSE - its a huge memory hog :)

As I used to hear my mother say "Oh my stars and garters!" Never really knew what she meant by that. Uh oh...another quirk project.

OMG, a quirk corset contest would be so cool...one of us could sneak into a Victoria's Secret store and take a really good photo of a model wearing one to use as a base image....or maybe there's one at StockXChange....

Judith, you are so right! I love this idea! I don't have a clue what the heck it means but I love it. It is going to be tough trying to sneak this one in a conversation.

I've put Stars and Garters on the list...you guys are getting that list going right on out to the end of the year already. Want to see the list?
April: MMMM....Chocolate!
May: Games People Play
June: Country Chic
July: Life's Journeys
August: Happiness Is...
September: Masks
October: Stars and Garters
Right now I've just been putting them in the order people have PM'd me with ideas! If I'm missing any, let me know. At the rate we're going we could have TWO ATC SWAPS per month!
