Did you use a type machine, too? Basically, a fancy typewriter that was bigger than my refrigerator. It had a b/w screen where you could see what you were typing, and it used huge cartridges that contained one font a piece. It printed the type out on paper strips that you would run through the wax machine. Graphic design was expensive back then. Fonts cost hundreds of dollars; no free fonts anywhere. This was in the early 80s; by the end of the decade, we were doing everything on computer. Now, you all know why I love Photoshop so much. :)

I'm not really sure Donna. I was only 9 or 10 at the time. I do remember they had a lady that was the "typesetter." And my dad used an Exacto knofe a lot to cut out graphics (which I would wax and place). It fun to compare that with what Photoshop can now do.

Hi ya'll! My name is Kellie F. Simpson-I am a happily married mother of 3 beautiful girls ( a blonde, brunette, and red-head!)-I live in Longview, TX, just an hour away from all of the boats and casinos in Shreveport (although I have no luck what-so-ever there). I have been a digi scrappin' designer for two sites, well, up until last week that is. I found DAQ about a week ago after stumbling upon Robyn England's blog accidently (which is FANTASTIC by the way, and I am not even much of a blog person!). I am eager to try my hand at digital altered art. I used to create paper altered art back when I did paper scrapping, but since I found digital and started creating my own, well, let's just say I have boxes and boxes (and prolly several hundred dollars worth) of papers, embellishments, and my collection of decorative edged scissors sitting out in our garage, collecting dust and spiders. Any-who, I just wanted to intro myself-everybody seems so nice here, and I received some VERY nice comments on the only two layouts that I've put up in the gallery here (and I was so nervous about them, that I almost didn't put them up! Everybody here is so talented and creative!). Anyway, I really think I'm going to like it here and look forward to getting to know everybody!
By the way, if you can't tell, I tend to ramble on and on and on! Sorry!

An OFFICIAL welcome to you Kellie! So glad you are here. We have a monthly mail swap (http://www.digitalartquirks.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=294) that we would LOVE to have you join! Some of us even dust off that paper stash and embellish our digital ATC's! So glad to have you here at DAQ!

Kellie!!!! We're so glad you took the QUIRK PLUNGE! You will not regret it! It's SOOOOOOO much fun! Great group of people here! And yes, if you want to play with paper sometime, join in on the ATC mail swap! We all seem to use a combo of digi and paper on those. It's a great way to use some of our little embellies, too! So, welcome aboard!

Hi All,
I quite accidentally found your site today, and just love the quirky-difference!!!! You are all so very talented and I'll do my best ... SO nice to find a place where the rules, what rules?, are just not anywhere in sight! LOL!!
A little about me : I discovered digi-scrapping in June of this year and have been hooked ever since. I have, however been drawn to the graphic design style, much more than the traditional "eyelets and brads" style.
I currently live in Abu Dhabi, the capital of the United Arab Emirates, while hubby of 10 years is doing a stint here for a local building contracting company. We are very proud and rather homesick South Africans, I can therefore say with a proud heart that we haven't emigrated but are ex-patting. I also found out a few weeks ago, that I am pregnant, am now about 11 weeks and not always feeling so well, lol!! They all tell me it gets better ... i'll wait and see :-)
I ramble ... I think I'll fit in just quirkalisciously LOL!!!

Hello
this site is just fab and very inspiring. i am a Kiwi living in England; starting to get very obsessed by digi-scrapping after years of glue and paper!
i have a little boy (very boyish and loud) and what seems like a zoo full of animals - a chocolate labrador, 2 cats, 4 fish and two rabbits.

Hi Everyone!
I am new here, signed up this morning after getting an invite from Robyn (I think her name here is Happy Robyn!).
I love digital creations and want to learn more all the time. I have been looking through the galleries and I am REALLY impressed with the work there. Just wonderful! :-)
I've been reading (or trying to) about the rolodex project. Can anyone point me in the right direction for the template? I'd love to create one!
Anyway, I love fatbooks and ATCs and really enjoy hosting swaps and playing in them. I'd like to get my feet wet and then start playing here.

I'm beginning to haunt here more and more often, with a word or two once in a while, but so far no gallery posts.
I guess I'd say I'm a quirky wanna be... enjoying all of the cool designs I'm seeing here, but not feeling quite quirky enough to play! You are all inspiring me though... both here and on other sites in the neighborhood! Maybe I should just dive in...
On second thought, has anybody got a good set of used training wheels I can borrow?? :D

OOPS - I totally forgot to post here and say
H e l l o
I'm a new quirky girl, or quirky new girl, or something like that!
I've already joined the magnet swap - woo hoo!
I haven't posted anything here yet, but I will soon. I started with digital almost a year ago, but didn't know what the heck I was doing till I joined a digi-scrapping site online. I got a mentor and and have been hooked ever since.
I'm a mixed media artist by trade, so altering images in PS, printing them out and using them in my art has just been fantastic! There are still so many 'looks' I'm trying to get out of PS, but learning is half the fun.
I'm living in Florence Oregon right now, but I'm really from Canada. I've adopted most all of the Yankee lingo like markers (felts), trash (garbage), tennies (runners), candy bar (chocolate bar).... but I miss my Canadian junk food and Tim Hortons.
I'm so happy to have found you all - especially because I have a zillion digi kits and such and I have not been taking too many pics this year, and now I have a reason and motivation to use em, for swaps and such - great fun!
OH and I have a question.... where do I find some of the neat blinkies I've seen here? I know I'll get a name one later, when that's all done, but I'm wondering where to find a cool graphic in the mean time to post with my siggy or on my blog, etc. Is there a folder for that, that I've missed? I'm still snooping around, trying to get to know the place :)

Hi there and welcome to Quirkland. Donna (Kygirl) has been running a "Quirkshop" at SBG to show scrappers that there is another world outside traditional scrapbooking. A step out of the box so to speak. Anything goes at Quirks. Take a trip through the member galleries and you will find lots of ideas. Check out the ETC section of Member Galleries and you can see the results of the Quirkle Challenge (weekly on Sundays). This week it is on the theme of a song with the word "rose" in the title. There is a collection of great entries and they are all soooooo different. That is the fun of Quirks - seeing how different people come up with different takes on the one theme. Digital kits and elements are used but in an entirely different way to that in conventional scrapbooking. Hope this helps. I am sure you will get lots of good advice from other Quirkers.

So glad you fell over here. DAQ is the sister site to SBG but has significant differences. It is commercial free--nothing is sold or advertised here. If nothing else, that means we are relatively blinky free (and I love that!). To an enormous extent, DAQ is left to run on its own, everything is grass roots. Anyone can post a challenge any time. I think of it as a huge playground well outside the peripheral vision of the adults. All we do is play here. We celebrate all manner of play: fun, serious, challenging, witty. All are welcome and all form of play is of interest to quirks!
