Um hi! I'm Robyn and I'm kind of shy but pretty happy most of the time. Glad to meet you all. LOL! Oh sorry - I just had to bring this post back up so our new quirk friends will find it tomorrow.

Hi, I am semi-new to the site! I have been 'in the know' about this quirky bunch, but haven't been able to really jump in until now. Everything looks awesome and I am excited and ready to be inspired even more!

Welcome, Jessica! Jessica totally rocked my world last year when she picked me as a winner in the Paper to Digital, Digital to Paper scraplifting challenge at Eclectic Scraps (I scraplifted a Cathy Zielske paper page into a digital one). It was so fun to receive her newest kit each month for four months straight! Thanks, again, Jessica! That was a hoot and a half!
Um, Hi all! I just found this site from Scrapability's blog, and had to jump in! I have just started getting into some digital art and have been altering things traditionally for a little while. I haven't even shared much of it yet! I was incredibly excited to find this little community this morning, and am excited to get to play and be inspired by all of you.
:) Amy

Hi Lisa (vania) nice to see a new face here.
Embarrassingly, I've realised I've not introduced myself either. I'm another Michelle (Maya says there's too many around here, and my other name Scrapability is too long). My pen name around forums is PacificBlue, I'm a kiwi living in Britain.
A shortname could be anything like Kiwi-M or Blue or Mike is another I often go by. You all decide.

05-01-2006, 08:37 PM
Hi Everyone :) I am Pjuska - or Nina when away from the internet. So very happy to see this site up and running, and beautiful it is, congratulations.
I used to do quite alot of digital scrapping a while back, but nowadays I do very little in the way of digital art. I can tell already that digitalartquirks will be an inspirational place to visit. I am loving all the new forms of expression I see. Other than that I am a single mum to Sara who is sixteen, and I live in Norway. Bravo to Maya and everyone who helped her make this possible!

05-02-2006, 06:23 PM
Hello, all. I have heard rumours of this site for awhile--could not resist peeking in. Love the gallery! I don't know anything about most of the forums (I tried looking in FAQ to find out what art journalling is, lol). So far, the only thing I have any substantive knowledge of are ATCs. Keeping it short (incredibly out of character), lots of familiar faces, inspiring pieces and nice feel to the site. Have a feeling my stuff is a bit too plebian and/or pedestrian (erstaz-quirk) so think I will lurk for awhile but I did want to congratulate Maya and all who worked to get this site up and running. Looks like a very good thing!
Vania16
05-02-2006, 06:30 PM
Hey Nevermore :) Nice to see you over here! And, hey, what about that Garden layout you did a while back - definitely not pedestrian :)
happyrobyn
05-02-2006, 06:45 PM
Hi Kim!!! Glad you made your way over here. Your art will fit right in! What are you talking about ... too pedestrian?! How about that storybook layout? And the one of how you would dream you would have met your husband? That would be a MAD (Memory Art Digital) layout. So great to see you here Nevermore!

Okay, okay sorry ! It would be fair to say I am not overly confident about what I do :) Right now I don't even know what I do and it doesn't much matter because I am not doing any of it--if I go much longer without producing a layout I think I am going to have a breakdown. Sob.

Glad to see some familiar Scrapartist faces as well some new folks I've never met. One person I invited mentioned not feeling confident enough to post here so want to emphasize that there is no such thing as not being 'good enough'.
New people and the opportunity to help others who are developing their quirk wings will keep this site new and fresh and fun!

05-03-2006, 01:55 AM
Hi all - just wanted to say what I twit I am because I created a whole new thread in general chat introducing myself, not realising that this was here - but I didn't think of myself as being community news - LOL
Kazadoodle is the name I go by and have done for years in any arty environment - I first started to use it when I was fabric painting way back when it was popular in the early to mid 80's - so, okay, this dates me. Derivation of name - Kaza being a standard nick name for Karin/Karen/Karyn and variations thereof, where I live in Australia and doodle coz that's what I was doing.
You can call me Kaza or Karin - I'll answer to both - LOVELY to be here.

Hey all, I've met alot of you already over at ScrapArtists. It should be fun to see what this site has going on. To those who got is going, kudos! It looks like you done a bang up job! OH, BTW, I'm ursula, aka, danielle, aka danieq. I've been getting around lately, and no I don't mean 'that' way. I'm just so having fun discoving the artist within that I never knew I had. The whole ursula thing is a switch for me after going by Danielle for nearly 20 years. I went by ursula till I was 15, then switched to danielle cause I hated the U name. Now I've decided it might be just the handle for a newly discovered artist. So, call me what you will, I may seem a little confused, but then maybe I'll turn out to be schizophrenic. Ok, well, in case you hadn't noticed, I do have a penchant for being a bit of a ham. But it is 1:30 in the morning so I guess I've a good excuse this time. NOt sure how much posting I'll do here as altered art is new for me and I do a lot of memory stuff as well. I've got a few others I'll probably load into the gallery soon. Blah, blah, blah....... I look forward to getting to know all of you better still!

Welcome Ursula and Kaza!!! So glad you are both here.

Hiya Kim!
You have a ton of quirky, free style, artistic layouts! Please come share them with the quirks! They need to see them...you are a super talented artist! But like most great artists...you are SOOOOO very hard on yourself! Something about the type "A" perfectionist personalities some of us are accursed with!!
That is why i love the scrap artist blinkie...have fun make mistakes, get creative...
non perfection can and is usually BEAUTIFUL

Well hello! I am Cre8tvlyYrs on most artsy/craftsy/scrap sites but Gina at home! I just so happened to stumble across this site through a blog link (can't remember which one though!) When I popped in here I was like how cool is this site? I LOVE it here! I see alot of familiars from SA here!! Hi Ladies! ;) As an artist I am really going through a transitional stage and I hope to continue to grow on my quest to 'just bloom', I feel like God has been leading me to different inspiration pools and this is the newest one! Fiddlette, thank you. I am afraid I am terribly burdened right now and not very good company! But I am loathing how it comes across so have decided to change my tune. Ever heard of whistling in the dark, hee hee. I am going to pick out five of my all time personal favourites that feel okay for this site relatively speaking and post them (gee how assertive and postive is that, eh?) I have moaned about my insecurity. So what? Who cares, put on a hairshirt, take an aspirin and call myself in the morning. The bottom line is, I continue to do this thing so I either have to get behind myself a little bit or stop posting altogether. Robyn did a layout once where she journalled that she was talented or words to that effect. It punched me in the gut. I could not imagine having the wherewithal to put that in words and post. I still can't. But I can sure post some things I like.

Nevermore, I have to have that conversation with myself regularly. So many times I've wanted to yank my galleries, shut down my blog, and just give away all my paper supplies. I don't think of myself as artistic at all, but I am slowly but surely seeing that I am definitely CREATIVE. The positive feedback around here sure helps!
happyrobyn
05-05-2006, 11:19 PM
Nevermore I really think you are so talented. Your art is unique and that is what is so great about it. This site NEEDS you because there is nothing like the art you produce and that makes you very special. Somehow you have put this site up on a pedestal ... or at least some of the work in the gallery when in reality most of us are just starting to get comfortable with our quirky side. Now go post something!!!
Nevermore
05-05-2006, 11:37 PM
I did Robyn, I did! I posted 5 old things and 2 new things. And I even said what I liked about the old pieces :) And I am going to post at least one of my political thingies this weekend (I have been working on taking political babble stuff and scrapping it). I told Joe (my partner) that I was creeping myself out: I used to post on photography boards but felt way too inferior, then I started posting on scrapping boards and felt inferior because I never paper scrapped and wasn't that great at using a lot of elements and now here is a board that says go for it and I am moaning cuz I might not be weird enough or artsy enough. I am tired of myself and have asked myself (in terms that cannot be repeated on this board) to shut up. I have given myself a good talking to, done my posting, and a few comments and now I am going to have a sudsy bath with candles and a murder mystery and a hot chocolate and let the political piece percolate way under the skin... Tomorrow gonna cruise the gallery, get a piece done in honour of NSD etc. etc. etc. I thank everyone here for their patience and I promise not to go off the deep end again for a good two weeks (just kidding!)

Hi everyone,
I found the site last week from Maya's ADs but just signed up this weekend. Love it here! Everyone's work is so expressive and creative. Thank you all for your inspiration.
I'm usually not too active in the forums because I'm trying to do this designing stuff with a full time job and a family! There is just no time. But I'll be stopping in and posting occasionally! The art journaling stuff looks like something I will be trying out.

Hey there everyone, CathyRose here, Cathy off line. Retired RN, wife, mother and grandma. I love all kinds of paper arts, will try almost anything. I love altering things and ATC's. Hey Mags! Welcome to DAQ!
My panties are in a bunch because I won't be able to play here tomorrow. :(
Well, maybe I'll be able to sneak in before DH drags me off to work with him...
;)
and then again when we get home in the afternoon.
Hmmm.... would it make me a quirktyr if I leave the panties in a bunch during my time away from DAQ? Because, I will do it!
btw- I am not one of the weird people here, either.
Ursula
05-11-2006, 02:50 AM
Ok, are we talking about the panties in bunch being those ones that always cweep up on you. If so,then I have perpetual panties in a bunch syndrome. Maybe that is a problem specific to wierdos as I cannot recall ever having seen any of the normal cool people picking panties out of their bunch.

Hanes Her Way here too. That's why I said I *don't* have my panties in a bunch. I understand why Jessica's might be though. I snuck on here before the kids woke up this morning. I don't know what I'll do when I have my vacationing hubby home for 5 days in a row starting tomorrow!

Hi Mags, good to have you here! Cotton underwear here too. Old lady undies my Dh calls it. I wear cotton a lot, have really sensitive skin, have to use detergents with any fragrance or I have problems. Not sure how we got on the underwear issue, must have missed something!

05-11-2006, 07:22 PM
Okay, so I buy cheap cotton underwear by the dozen at Costco. And then I throw them out. They are actually cheaper than pantyhose. I just like having new underwear. And I am never worried about getting run over by a bus. I never asked my mom why she worried about that so much. I mean, you gotta figure that even the most insensitive ambulance crew on the planet is going to be more concerned about keeping you alive than stopping to chit chat about your underwear!

Hi Everyone! I found this site today from Maya's blog and I'm thrilled to be here! I'm Terri and I live in Northern Virginia with hubby Kevin, daughter Emily 13, son Keith 12, Collie Dog Klue, and Freddie Cat 14+. I've been fascinated with Altered Arts for about three years now, but haven't done much - I can't tear myself away from reading the books and magazines, and looking at others' artwork online! I've seen beautiful bras that artists have altered, and the undies thread has me thinking that maybe we should alter our Hanes Her Way undies! That would certainly let everyone know real quick how quirky we are! I'm thinking the bigger, the better - you probably can't fit much artwork on a thong! I'm really enjoying everyone's quirkiness - thanks for making me feel so welcome already!

I post some quirks, leave a bunch of comments on all of the utterly amazing artwork in the galleries, and now I tell you who I am. How's that for backwards?
I'm Krista. It's AmyK's fault I'm here, although I would have ended up here sooner or later of my own accord, I think. I've always been drawn to quirky artsy things. I'm the digi scrapper who religiously reads Somerset Studio and Cloth Paper Scissors. I always wanted to replicate that vibe with digi, but never had the guts, or maybe the kick in the butt, to do it. I feel like DAQ gave me permission to explore something I've had in me all along. So, thank you, hello, and I'm making myself at home here. Hope that's ok!

Yep, I'm a fellow Somerset/Legacy wannabee as well...I say we blitzkrieg Legacy with weird layouts until they create a special section just for digiquirks. Later on we can demand our own magazine.

I promise they are getting a little quirkier in the upcoming months. Take a peek at a couple of the layouts I have coming up by clicking on my scrap resume link in my signature. I am gradually submitting quirkier stuff. I didn't want to scare them off right away! LOL! And I plan to submit to Somerset Studio soon. But I don't know what they will think of digital art because they do not accept email submissions presently. So - I'll have to actually print something and send it to them when I have some time. Perhaps after I have been in a few Legacys I can get an in at Somerset since they are the same company. We'll see... I go on submitting kicks and presently I am not on one!

HappyRobyn -- boldly going where no other quirk has gone before!
Congratulations, Robyn. Can't wait to see Legacy's new digital section.
Welcome, Krista! Finally! SHEESH! You all don't know what kind of work it took to get her here. Long emails, peeks at projects, the lot of it. And you're a natural! Didn't I say so?? :D
And WTG Robyn on all your submissions. Open the door for the rest of us. ;)

Robyn, I am so glad you are submitting to the Stampington publications. It is a bummer that they don't take email submissions. My DD has had a few cards and projects published and she didn't know anything about it until they sent her a free issue for the month they used her art. Seems like it would be nice to know ahead of time.

I'm so totally new that I haven't even figured out what's going on...but I totally LOVE this site. I would love to know how to do the "altered art" thing and have a wonderful "new name" - but (see this is just comment #2) I don't know anything about making those cute ATCs. So, I guess I'm a "quirk wanna be" 'cause I think this site RAWKS. I'll probably lurk for a while and try to learn all the cool stuff I need to know to be a real "quirk-diva". And BTW, I've only been into this digi thing for 6 months now and I'm loving every minute!

Hi Victoria, and welcome! You'll love the freedom of quirking out here! There are no rules, that's the fun part. ATCs are just miniature pages - the only rule to them is that they be 2.5 x 3.5 inches. Other than that, you are free to do absolutely *whatever* you want. Glad to see you jump in.

I think I thought it was another Krista! And I think I forgot to welcome someone else. I very much like and adopt Robyn's approach--welcome anyone I have not welcomed. It is easier on my brain.
I would love to have the skill to do a layout of my head with a slot opening on the forehead like in my dryer. You just pull the filter out and take out all the collected lint. I really like the lint--it is soft and clean and often has interesting patterns. But it is good to get it out of the dryer. Much the same could be said of my thoughts and ideas. It would be so terrific to clean the filter on occasion. Dang, I have to try to do this. Sad to say I don't think I have the technical skill but it will be a hoot to try. My family will think nothing of me sitting in front of the dryer taking shots of the filter.

Well, just to fill you in... somebody got a new washing machine (was it Cathy? Donna? Lisa? Man, I am totally forgetting now... I think it was Lisa... no... wait... gosh WHO WAS IT?) and it became a huge topic of discussion for a bit, which completely made me laugh. I feel like I've just had the Queen's shilling pressed into my sticky palm! :)
Actually I did see that sign up thingy and have to admit to finding it a little complicated and I'm a bit nervous about a) getting too committed when I've only just joined, and b) getting into a tribe/team culture which I've seen become devisive and cliquey on other forums.
I thought I'd share my honest first thoughts with you because that might be how others see it also. Perhaps someone could make their case for the defence here!

Hi Madge! Well I thought I'd try to reassure you here...first of all, I totally understand about the cliquey concern but I for one am not into stuff like that either. In fact I never try to be what others want me to be...I'm just me. Whatever you decide is fine. I don't see the tribal thing as being at all devisive. It seems to be more just for fun and giggles... ya hear that, tribe 1???? (LOLOLOLOL). Anyway, I just had to comment because your note about us all being barking mad was so spot-on and vastly amusing! Woof woof!

So THAT's why nobody wants to play!? Because it's cliquey!? Why didn't someone say so in the first place! LOL We could have cleared that up a long time ago. I'm sorry if that's how it comes off . . .certainly wasn't the intention!
I guess we just saw the tribe thing as a fun way to play games with each other in the future. There isn't even any kind of guarantee that might happen. It was just an idea in Maya's head. So if that's the part that everyone is having trouble with I'll just go take it out. That is only like one small smidgen of a percentile of what the naming ceremony was supposed to be about.
So I'm gonna go modify the instructions and take that part out for now. This whole thing was supposed to be about everyone getting a cool name. If the tribal part is causing grief then consider it gone. We shall stand for no such thing in Quirkland!
If we decide in the future we want to have group competitions, then we'll work out the groups at that point, seperately from the naming ceremony. Let's just cross bridges when we get to them.
So how does that all sound? Better? Will people sign up now!? Please!!! :)
I totally didn't think about the tribes thing, so I'm glad Madge brought that up! I am just thrilled to be getting a new name. It's like a rebirth, you know? I can be someone different than I have been, and I will be FREE! :D I hope more people sign up!

Welcome Gillian & Margaret
Margaret - I'm soooo excited that you do textile art - I'm so into the idea of doing digital art and then printing on fabric. I'm no good at sewing but oh well! So far I've printed on June Taylor fabric sheets. I haven't made my own fabric sheets and used bubble jet set or anything cause it sounds kind of involved. But the possibilities for home decor and altered are are so endless.
In fact I started a new textile arts (http://www.digitalartquirks.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=144) thread for people to trade info and ideas!

That would probably be easier anyway in the long run. That way if we have fun group events the people who are actually interested in participating can form groups. Having different groups for each event will help people get to know each other better and not become clicky.

05-25-2006, 08:56 PM
Okay, Okay, good point about cliques and let's banish it--but please, couldn't we come up with a tribal name for every single member ie. a quirkwide tribe? Hunh hunh can we can we can we hunh? I have never been part of a tribe before
mishou
05-25-2006, 09:14 PM
LOL Kim
Do not fret, the tribe thing is gonna happen somewhere down the road. The idea of group games is just too much fun. Rather than have it be a first come first serve sign up business we'll try to figure out a more objective and random way of doing it that everyone can be comfortable with. Then we are totally getting it on Survivor style!!!! And we can switch the tribes up for each different event like Debra suggested. Nobody stays in the same tribe for long on the real Survivor anyway LOL
BUT, in the meantime, we could certainly come up with something more global to satisfy your tribal desires ;)

Exactly, Ursala! Mangecake, white bread, small town, salt of the earth whatever. Not a filament of exotic! That is why I got so chuffed at being part of a tribe. When I think tribe I think Diaspora, I think cult, I think knowledge passed down through the millenium, I think just about anything and everything except mini vans and Wonderbread. Now, don't throw loaves at me--nothing wrong with mini-vans! Just not exotic. I mean, you wouldn't wear a white diaphonous silk scarf wrapped around your head to drive your mini van, right?
Ursula

Well, I've seen women in diaphonous scarves driving mini vans, really, I have.

I'm a digital artistg, I'm blessed with Parkisons Disease hence my funny typing at times. I aspire to hottieness, but haven't quite achied it. But there is hope. My name is Vernon but I go by Arashi. It means "storm" but I'm relatively tame. It refers to internal turmoil, not something which effets others. I'm largely a self-taught artistl, though my grandmother taught me to paint. I primarily utilize Paint Shop Pro 9, and view myself as primarily a colorist and pattern painter as well as a nonobjective artrist. That means that like Kandinsky my work is not based in reawliity, whateverf thatg is. (Smile) I'm working toward combining standard art media witgh digital elements. I prefer to work improvisationally and surround myself with interesting objecdts, photos, and textiles to stimulate my process and when working, I usueally just find somewher to start and see where it goes. I look forwrrd to getting to know all of you and sharing with you.

Welcome Vernon/Arashi and Bonnie - hopefully we can all inspire each other. There are a lot of digital scrapbookers here so it's nice to get some participation from other backgrounds to add to the mix.
Robyn, I think Vernon's from Texas...

Hi, I just joined today and am excited to be a part of this group. It has been years since I have been a part of a online group. I do hope to become an active participant and get to know many of you. I spend the better part of each day working on my graphic projects. I am from Virginia and have spent the past 10 years learning how to use PSP, Photoshop and Painter to turn my ideas into what I loosely term 'art'.

Hi all, I am so thrilled to have found this site. I have to admit that I am stalking Nicole Hinrichs ;). Her work has so inspired me even though I've been a little slow with getting my style down. But this site is just what I've been looking for. I've browsed through the gallery and every thing here is just awesome!!!
Thanks for a great site and I can't wait to learn more!

So excited to see so many new faces--although since we've only been open a month, I guess we're all still fairly new here...still, it's fun to be able to say hi to all of you, welcome you to our little corner of the web! Looking forward to seeing what you share in the gallery. We all glean a little bit from each others' art, don't we? So good to have community! Happy Quirking!

Hi -- I'm Beth. Not exactly new as I signed up pretty much when the site got going, but it also coincided with my getting a new job. So I haven't been as active as I would like, but hopefully that will change soon!
I've been digi-scrapping in an on-again, off-again sort of way for about a year and a half. The scrapping is fun, but I'm also interested in the digital journaling or more artsy aspects which is what makes this group so appealing to me! There's so much talent and friendly exchange here -- I've enjoyed DAQ already a lot.
Cheers! Beth

Hi all,
I've been prompted to join your band by several of your members, Gillian and Karin to be precise.
I'm a digi geek but an utter idiot when it comes to navigating this sort of forum and ALL the places to look for posts!.... a yahoo digest minimalist I guess!
Bear with me while I figure it all out and any pointers will be well appreciated.

Marie Welcome Marie. It would be a waste of time to try too hard to figure out where to post what as most posters here adamantly refuse to be categorised and just talk about what they want where they want. Someone said we were "barking mad" which is a wonderful expression and not a bad description at all. Post anywhere about anything and I am fairly confident the thread will get picked up and the spinners here will weave a conversation out of it. Welcome again.

anyway, I'm Kate and I checked this site out months ago but it was Pam (Pampie) who reminded me what a great site it is, so here I am back again. (thanks, Pam) I've been digiscrapping for about 3 years but lately it just hasn't been challenging me and I felt like I needed to come at this from a different angle. Digital altered art is giving me the inspiration to freestyle and I'm really enjoying it...not sure that I know what I'm doing...but enjoying it anyway!

Hi! I am Laurie, mom of 3, wife to the same yummy guy (http://www.digitalartquirks.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=1423&cat=503&limit=recent)for 21 years. I recently met Nicole Hindrichs online and admire her and her art immensely. SO I had to check out where she hangs her hat and that is here! What a wonderful community! I have been involved in graphic design long before computers had much to do with it, but it was all very stoic, static...silent...newspaper ads, college catalogs, class brochures, etc. Then I was introduced to digital scrapping, which allowed me to explore my graphic design side more fully and creatively, and make wonderful memory pages! Then came Nicole and DAQ! A new door, a new excitement, a new freedom! I am just enthralled with all your work (and play!) here and hope to be able nudge that side of me more into my scrapping, as well as just create art for art's sake.
Thank you for such a fun and welcoming community!:D

Hi, Coffeequeen. I, too, was doing graphic design back in the days of cut and paste. Still use those skills for crafts, but prefer the computer for scrapping and design. Glad you made it to DAQ. Nicole is an inspiration for all of us.

Welcome Coffeequeen! And LOL Donna!!! In the late 1970's, my dad worked at a magazine and I would go to work with him on deadline night and help with the layouts. It was a car selling magazine. My job was to run the pictures through the wax machine and stick them on the pages in any way that I wanted as long as they fit! Things have changed just a tad but that is was my introduction to graphic design, I guess.

Hahahahha, yes I remember that wax maxhine well, Robyn! The store for which I did the newspaper ads we so cheap, we had a massive number of file folders I which we saved all the waxed clip art from the proofs to be reused over and over and over! So I had 100's of files loadd with waxed bras, waxed shoes, waxed flyswatters......
