Who is May? And why does she need you to bring her flowers?

LOL

I've been wanting to say that ever since I came up with the idea for this first ATC mail swap! I wanted to have a fun, totally accessible first swap, and flowers seemed like a great place to start. It's Spring here in Oregon where I live, and it's really true...April showers DO bring May flowers. So, that's the theme for our first ATC swap: Bring May Flowers.

If you would like to participate in this snail mail swap, please send an email to me (mailto:webchyck@comcast.net) with the subject: MAY SWAP. Please include your name, mailing address and email address. You have until midnight Eastern on May 7th to sign up. On the 8th everyone who has registered will receive a list of all the other artists with whom they will be trading. You will then have until May 31st to create, print, and mail your artist trading cards to the other participants. Each swap group will have no more than 9 participants (including yourself). You may create one ATC based on the theme and replicate it for everyone or you may create nine unique ATCs to send out.

So, that's the scoop! Can't wait to hear from you! Please don't hesitate to ask questions. I'm sure there's something I'm overlooking. And it's guaranteed if you have a question, someone else is thinking it, too, so please ask!

I've been looking forward to this ever since you first brought it up Becky! It will be my first swap ever so I'm really excited!

Here's a newbie question for ya:

When we mail out our cards, do we mail each of the 8 to each individual person or do we mail them all to you (the host) and you mail them out? For some reason I thought it was the host that did it, but the more I think about it and now that I read your post here I'm thinking maybe that's not right? LOL

So glad you're excited about this swap, Michelle! Each participant is responsible for mailing their own ATCs. The list they receive will include addresses. I understand if people are hesitant about revealing that info. My suggestion would be to hang around for a while and get to know people (as best as you can online) until you feel comfortable. I had a very good experience with my first swap, so I trust that this will work out well for us. We all just need to be highly respectful of the info we're entrusted with and make sure to not use it for anything else. Each group will receive email addresses, too, so they can correspond throughout the month (ie, "I'm mailing my cards today, hope you like them" and "Hi Christine, I got your card today, it's beautiful, thanks so much!").

Thanks for asking this question!

Oh my gosh, you're not too late, Janna! May 7th is the deadline! You'd better sign up, girl!

One thing participants might want to keep in mind when considering joining the swap is that we will have an international group, so, of course international postage rates will apply.

Are you talkin' about my second cousin once removed May? I don't think I understand. And why does she have flowers? Oh - maybe I'll have to figure this all out on my own. What I'm tryin' to say is add me to the list. GASP ... I don't have email access during the day! LOL!

Robyn I think I still have all your info from a previous swap or creative team or something! LOL! Richmond Circle?

Well, no one would know what city if you didn't have your location up there! Sorry! Want me to delete that post?

happyrobyn
05-02-2006, 12:50 AM
LOL. No - there's a million cities in the D/FW metroplex!!

mishou
05-03-2006, 01:11 AM
Well if it makes you feel any better Robyn I have no idea what D/FW stands for and I have no clue what a metroplex is. So you won't find me stalking the bushes outside your house anytime soon LOL

happyrobyn
05-03-2006, 08:49 AM
LOL Mishou!! I thought the whole world revolved around Texas (as all Texans do!). D/FW is Dallas/Fort Worth and "the" metroplex is Dallas and Fort worth and all of the surrounding suburbs, towns and cities.

Funny that you don't know about Texans. Oh wait. I must stop here ... I feel a slam coming on!

Canadians don't know
jack squat!
Texas don't have ranches everywhere
and it ain't hot 365!
The boys aren't all
the cow variety
But let me tell you
the ones that are
are HOT
365
24
7!
Oh those cowboys!
They're like candy
that you can't eat.
But they make you drool
with that big 'ol hat
and them tight blue jeans.
Gotta stop here
losing my focus!
Texans don't know
jack squat!
Canadians don't all know each other
and it ain't cold 365.
The boys don't all play hockey
But let me tell you
the ones that do
are HOT
365
24
7!
Oh those hockey boys
they make the ice melt.
They're like a big Mack truck
but in human form.
They're tough
they got muscle
and they know how to use it.
Boys in the South.
Boys in the North.
Doesn't matter
They're both HOT!

I don't know if you'll ever be the nation's poet laureate, Robyn, but you are one funny slammer!

ROFL Robyn 'The Slam' England strikes again! Beware! Her wit is quicker than a speeding bullet and she will slay you with her humour!
It's all about boys with you, isn't it Robyn? LOL

happyrobyn
05-03-2006, 02:24 PM
YES - it is all about boys! How did you know? I'm the world's best window shopper! Sorry about the slam. They just come over me sometimes and I have to get it out!

And I'm so sad that I won't be the poet laureate. Boo ... sob! My two favorite poets (hint ... they are both Emily's) will have to do.

Does your husband know you're this obsessed with boys, Robyn? LOL Perhaps your ATC for May's swap will be all about a "very special flower" someone brings to May, eh? What are those Hawaiian flowers called? Red Anthurium (http://facultystaff.vwc.edu/~presslar/CultivatedAnthurium/page1.htm)...oh yeah...those remind Robyn of boys, I'm sure.

happyrobyn
05-03-2006, 04:49 PM
Boys ... men ... doesn't matter to me as long as they are at least 18!! LOL! Yes. I think my poor DH has an inkling of my obsession but he knows I'll never roam from home cause he's the only one for me!!

Oh yes ... I knew a Canuck would appreciate it! I will forever have to keep up with Canada because I am a Texan but have 4 Canadian kiddos and I don't want them to lose their heritage!

Hey, quirks! Just want to remind you that the deadline for signing up for the May Mail Swap is Sunday May 7th at midnight Eastern. So far we've got seven signed up. Two more would make a "perfect" group and if more want to join, we'll start another group (although if that one doesn't fill up, I'll make them equal sizes). Just wanted to bump this up!

Registration for the May Mail ATC Swap is now closed. Group lists will be going out today. If you missed the sign-up for this month's swap, never fear! We will have another one next month. Plus, you can still post and share ATCs in the gallery--perhaps you'll want to take a look at some of the Digital Share ideas we've got going on in the ATC forums.

Thanks to everyone who is participating this month. Have fun with the flowers!

Oh drat, wish I'd seen this sooner. I have a ridiculour paper supply that needs using!

webchyck
05-08-2006, 02:02 PM
Sorry Ursula! We'll catch you next month! I know what you mean about that paper supply...me, too!

happyrobyn
05-08-2006, 03:25 PM
Hmmmm ... paper - I'm basically paper challenged but just maybe I should do SOMETHING with that mound of paper I have in the corner of the closet!!

Vania16
05-08-2006, 05:44 PM
Well, I don't have the collection that Ursula has, but I do have a pretty good stack of paper gathering dust, so maybe I'll get in on one of these some month too - it'd be fun to get something good in my snail mail for a change :)

I missed this too! I too have tons of paper and all kinds of "stuff" to use. I will be watching for the swap next month.

I want all you quirks to keep in mind that you can do your ATCs digitally and just print them out, too! Or use any combination of paper and digital you want!

happyrobyn
05-08-2006, 10:55 PM
I've been sitting in the back of my closet (under all of my hanging clothes!) for the last hour looking through all of my dusty paper supplies. LOL! Digi is so much easier. We'll see what I come up with. Who knows at this point! I'll just surprise you.

05-10-2006, 07:04 PM
Well...my digital cards are printed on paper! And I printed out Maya's ATC envelopes, but no other paper was harmed in the making of my ATCs...LOL! Digital or paper...whatever blows up your skirt!
