I was just wondering who of you quirks out there likes mix it up and use real life mixed media in combination with your digital art to create 3-d pages lumpy dimensional art works...and what do you find is the advantage of doing so...
Would you please post here and in the gallery to share your work with us? We'd love to see it!! :)

I'm just about all digi ... except very rare special occasions! ;)

I've done some, with my first digital attempts...they weren't very good, but I think I could do it now with a little more finesse. Like I was thinking of maybe adding some stick-on gems to my ATCs for this month's swap...that kind of thing...nothing too elaborate.

I do a mix with altered items - I tend to design covers for books in PS and then print that out along with my paper and then use real-life embellishments and ribbons. For example, this book on our trip to Minnesota, it's not especially quirky LOL, but you get the idea . . .
Minnesota Album (http://www.twopeasinabucket.com./pg.asp?gallery=4&cmd=display&layout_id=610544)
I'd like to try to do more of that with layouts, but for some reason I have a harder time mixing the two on a single page than in a big project LOL

I'm worthless when it comes to non-digi but i'd like to learn to make some little art books to put my digital printouts in. I like Vania's travel journal.
My friend and I did memory quilt type stuff but she always did the sewing! We used these June Taylor Fabric Sheets from the local Jo Ann Fabrics - you just put them in the printer and print and then heat set the image & you can use in quilts and stuff. When I get a printer that works w/my new laptop I'd like to try making some little art pillows (nothin fancy here).

My sister-in-law has a quilt made like that - it's really cool! Pillows would be fab - think of all the fun fringy stuff you could use . . . wonder if I could find room for more pillows on the couch LOL

I think I always add some digital to my paper stuff, if in no other way than through text and photo altering. I never just take a straight picture, everything gets altered a bit in PSE. What I'd like to know is how to achieive the texture of paint in digi. You know that wonderful wet, lumpy look you get with built up oil paints. I'm wanting to see if I can duplicate that.

It just seem natural to me to mix it all up. I often choose a digital background for an ATC print it and built from there. Adding stamping and glazes and then some tiny embellishments is so much fun.

I've been avoiding working w/physical materials but lately I've been wanting to explore this area, mainly because I have slaved over these digital lo's and I want some cool ways to present them....found myself setting up a little work area, buying some basic tools like a craft knife, corner cutter and some cardstock.
I'm thinking little mini books/cards w/4x4 printouts of my LO's - they are really cheap to have printed at scrapbookpictures.
Stampington is coming out w/some kind of book/magazine on turning altered/heritage art into home decor so I'm excited about their ideas. Buying stuff for the home is so expensive so the prospect of turning my art into home decor is VERY appealing!

4x4 is a great size. I often use it. The only thing to be aware of is if you use fonts, that the writing will be ledgible.

I will have to find that Stampington book! I love to make things to have around home - it's so nice to have things with sentimental value to look at! Plus, with all the stuff I make I'm running out of places to put it - I need something practical! Okay, not really practical, but at least something I can hang up LOL

Check out Lani Kent's (http://stores.ebay.com/Healing-Expressions) work - major talent and cool ideas (sorry it's a commercial link but I don't think she has a blog). I e-mailed her and asked her to check out this site!

That is a cool idea, altered home dec. My only problem with home dec is that then I'd have to dust it. And if it's altered, it's likely to be lumpy, which means technical dusting. Yuck. My family doesn't appreciate anything altered, so sometimes I'm pretty happy enjoying looking at others art in mags and online.

Well, if you don't want to dust you can coat it w/gloss polyurethane and hose it off!
happyrobyn
05-14-2006, 08:59 PM
It would be so fun to have a home you could just hose off every once in a while!

I need one of those homes Robyn! Especially out here! I never knew things could get so dusty until I moved to Arizona LOL

I love things with a high gloss polyurethane finish, anyway, but the added bonus is the hose off option!!
Loved Lani's store...and her art is awesome...my whole house would have my creations from top to bottom, (similar to Lani's style with her vintage imates) with heliotrope walls as a back drop, if I lived alone...lol!! I will be one quirky old lady one day!!

Totally agree on the dust thing. I have a few collections, all are a pain to dust. The worst are my dollhouses, bad enough I have to dust my real house!

Fidlette;; I am a newbie while poking around I found your question. I use multi and mixed media frequently. First I am an avid PS Cs2 fan and I tend to either make paper collages or artquilts using my images. Here is one example

Hope it works. I don't know how to post in this place's gallery yet. Still learning the ropes.

Most of us Save for Web (72 dpi) at between 500-600 pixels wide...that gets us below most sites' 125kb size requirement. I think the DAQ size limit is a bit larger, though...200 kb. .jpg and .gif files are both allowed. Some of us like to do little animations so that's why we allow .gifs unlike a lot of digital scrapbooking sites we hang out at.

I have posted in the members Gallery an example of quilts I make using digital photos that have been altered. In this case, printed on fabric and overpainted in spots. Hope this works. Try this and let me know if it works.

Welcome, Ceevee! Well, now you've successfully posted and found your way into a thread. It took me forever to learn the nuances of this site, but I've certainly grown to love it! Your art is a refreshing new expression. I was recently in a postcard swap, and I received a wonderful fabric postcard with button-hole stitched edge. I'm off to Joann's to look for that June Taylor fabric!
