Ok so I am over at the gallery and looking at all the catagories that one can post work in over there and I see this thing at the bottom called "ATC JAM sessions" <<<< sticky jam .... ok so my mind is weird .... but anyway is this a new gallery or am I just one of those people that forgets to scroll down (my best mate online always used to take great delight in making me scroll on IM)

When is this JAM session going to happen cause I was thinking the other day to myself that something like that would be rather neat to do and I was even going to start one on my blog possibly but if there is something like that here then I don't need to do I now.

Ok gotta stop now before I am in danger of Nevermoring

Belles, I never noticed that either! It sounds very exciting. I am not exactly sure how it is supposed to be done. What were you thinking of doing? There is no reason not to start it here. We are self-starters, the moderators just let us go and do our thing. Please let me know what you were thinking about.

Hummmmmmm well now ya trying to make me think of what I had in mind LOL -- ok but now for the moment my mind has gone blank ............. give me a sec or two and I will see if I can order my mind clearly enough to sort out what I had on it. ;)

OK well maybe I was thinking ATC's cause they are smaller for passing around and would have to use a download site for me to be able to cope with this and for us (who ever wants to be involved) to do our part on a printable high resolution card.

I was thinking that maybe 3 or 4 people agree to work together and each one of them start a card with an item or two (how ever many the group agrees too) and the upload it in png or psd file formate to a site where it can then be downloaded for the next person and then they add their bits and peices, effects etc and pass it on again (upload it again) for the next person

Each person starts one and it gets posted here by the person that started it when it gets back to them.

If there are 3 in the group then there would be a set of 3 cards, if there where 4 then there would be a set of 4 cards.

Another way that it could be done is with a theme and each member of the group do a card that fits that theme but then it forms a set.

Can anyone make sense of all this?

I can, but that might not give you much comfort, lol! Belles, I love both ideas, the set and the collaborative effort. I especially like that each person puts in a card but everyone in the group works on it.

Well you started it kiddo, do you want to take it and run with it? My thoughts are that it is Christmas fast approaching and it might make sense to keep the groups smaller at first say even two or three in a group. But maybe the whole jam could be made up of as many groups as sign up and there is an overall theme. It would be neat to post as they go, too, if you know what I mean? First person posts what they did, when the second person adds to it, it is posted and when the third person finishes (assuming three just to get the idea across), the final card is posted. That would let everyone see the progess of the piece as each artist noodles with it.

Belles, I think that this is just a terrific idea.

This sounds like a lot of fun either way. Let me know if I can participate, please?

Maybe we keep this to 3 per group and see how many sign up at this point and then in the mean time I can cogitate on a theme LOL. The obvious would be Christmas but I'm not the sort of person to go with the obvious LOL

Should I start another thead for sign up do you think?

I definitely recommend starting another thread for sign up. I also recommend posting it in ATC Jam. If we want three in a group, we got it!

Belles, your post should include general deadlines etcetera so people can figure out if they have the time and the theme (my suggestion and only a suggestion, Down the Rabbit Hole or On the Trail of the White Rabbit). Please let us know what each member of the group is supposed to do within a range ie. add x number of elements or what? What file format? Maybe .tiff? I think that keeps layers but lets multiple platforms open it?

People could use YouSendIt to send the files.

Ok ..... I gotta go to work right now --- is Monday morning here but I finish at lunch time so will think upon my wording for this and do a new thread later this afternoon. I like your idea it leaves it wide open to all sorts of things -- thanks. :)

LOL, yeah the Jam Session gallery has been there from the beginning I believe.

We tossed around a lot of ideas months ago about how to do this kind of thing . . . too lazy to go find the original posts and they're probably buried by now but one of the things that came up is the issue of "illegal" file sharing.

You probably have already thought about this but I'll just mention it in case. If you're going to pass around 1 card for everyone to work on, it would have to be a flattened .jpg and not a layered .psd. Because let's say Helen uses an element from one of Maya's kits, doesn't flatten the file, sends it to Kim and now Kim has an element she never paid for. KWIM?

I know you'll all probably be using a lot of freeware clip art, stock photos, etc. but just keep all that in mind in the event you use something purchased.

Anyway, just thought I'd throw that out there. My moderator contribution for the month .. . Even though I'm not a moderator LOL!

Well ok .... no that had not occured to me but anyway will see if we can put some conditions on entries to avoid using paid for bits and peices.

Don't think I will be coming up with any more bright ideas tho all the same cause it now is just starting to look more and more like a huge hassel. :(

Yes, too bad, too. sounded cool. I can certainly see the issue, but lets say you want to put something behind something else...what a huge hassle if you aren't working with layers....bummer!

I'd still like to get into this with a couple of people. I tend to make up my own elements because I'm rather poor at the moment and don't have a chance to buy a lot of things. I work a lot from freeware and stock photos, or from photos that I've taken myself over the years.

I think if we start with the parameters of you can only use your own personally fabricated elements, we should be ok. Oh, and I'd really like to go with Down the Rabbit Hole, or something like that. Could be a lot of fun, and there's art that is in the public domain.

After all...the point is creativity, right? We could do our own things, and pass them along for the next person. In quilting, they call this a "round robin", and the results are always fun. Anybody still for a go at it?
