This challenge is inspired by a really great article in Art-E-Zine about collage portraits by graphic artist Michelle Kaplan (http://www.art-e-zine.co.uk/michelle.html).

Michelle's technique involves blowing up a vintage image and using it as a transparent overlay over a collage. For this technique you will want to play with layer transparency and blending modes. More of Michelle's work can be seen on her Website (http://michellecaplan.30art.com/index.php?menu_id=17).

here's my sample LO: Gina...Collage Portrait of a Star (http://www.digitalartquirks.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=378&nocache=1). Another fabulous example by fellow Quirk Nicole Hinrichs (http://www.digitalartquirks.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=347&cat=all&limit=last7) is very close to this technique but with Nicole's own mod graphic flair.

Have fun and be sure to post a link to your LO so we can see what you came up with!

Have fun with this one & make sure to post a link back to the forum so we can ooh and aah over your creations!

Wow, I just checked out Miss Kaplan's gallery and I'm in awe! How stinkin' cool are her collages?! Thanks for bringing this to our attention Debra! I think this one's gonna be a real challenge for me. Can't wait to try it.

How cool Nicole - I used your work as an example for this challenge & now I know there's an official 'influence'.

Hope you're feeling better Nicole.

Here's an example by Kazadoodle (http://www.digitalartquirks.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=438&limit=recent)that fits this challenge but with a different approach. Kind of a Picasso/cubism type of style vs. the transparent overlay...

Picasso and all his buddies did collage so hey why not do both!

Oh - I just found one of my quirks in here - how cool - thanks for the referral - LOL.

Nicole - I hope you feel better soon - throat infections are the worst.

I hope (and quirkily think) it's ok to do these out of order. I wrote the list down and actually did a collage of me - but then when I actually read the "what it's supposed to be" description, I put this together. And it was fun to do. Reminded me of my days in Key West, FL back in the good old days and our trip there just last January. So I put this one in for the MAD #12 challenge:

Okay, so I was looking at a piece by Nicole and she mentioned Michelle Caplan so I googled her and goggled. Now I find this thread. Are the stars colluding to make me try to do a Caplan like collage?

Hi everybody! My name is Kellie and this is the first challenge that I've participated in here, not to mention the first time I've ever posted in the forum. I just found DAQ this week, after seeing it on Robyn England's blog, which I found accidently also! And I am just amazed at how good and creative that everybody here is!
I have been a digi scrappin' designer for the last couple of years-until this week, that is, when I realized that I didn't want to HAVE to do it, all of the time, because it was my job. I wanted to go back to where I WANTED to do it, because I ENJOYED doing it. And I have decided to try to expand my mind and branch out my creativeness---so here I am!!!
So, enough of my boring rambling (I tend to drone on and on), here is my attempt at the Collage Portrait-I know it's not very good, (please don't laugh!!), but I wanted to try to see if I could do itanyway!

I think I'm going to really like it here

Kellie!! WELCOME!!! So happy to see you posting here! Go over and introduce yourself on the new members thread (http://www.digitalartquirks.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=39).

Beware ... we tend to get a bit off-topic in the forums here!!

This one has been flirting around my head for a couple weeks. Glad to have finally gotten it all down.
