:o I have decided to print mine [ROLODEX CARDS] out on very high quality photo paper and adhere them to the card and hand cut the do hickeys. I have some old skills in cutting that I need to refresh but used to decoupage so not terrified at tackling the slots. I have heard that scrappers have some cool adherents so I will visit a real live scrapbooking store to see what is there as I think I will make a total muck up if I use my Elmer's glue.

Before I rediscovered I can't cut to save my life and "cool adherents" are a nightmare. Does anybody have links to all the discussions we have had about the best way to print these? Or the different methods people have tried? I have
1. A bunch printed out and glued and the holes cut out. They look just HORRIBLE
2. Some I printed directly on the cards. They look just HORRIBLE

I do so want to have all my swap Dexxies displayed. I won't give up until they are (beautiful little jewels that they all are). I promise to put any responses/links together and post them in the Resources area here so anybody can find them. All help in trying to gather them all together gratefully appreciated.

All I can do is tell you how I do them, which is to print them out on photo paper and adhere them to the rolodex cards with a glue stick. I use the rolodex as a template for cutting, and finish by using one of those little rolodex punches to cut the holes.
Re: gluesticks. You may remember that I mentioned that heat will help the glue adhere, so if you apply pressure to the back of the cards with your hands, the glue will stick better.
Good luck on collecting the old threads.

Donna, you must have the business card size Rolodex. The larger size (5 x 3) does not have a punch. Both me and Alison have scoured the net but can't find one. I DO remember your .33 cent tip (but also happen to know you just bought a Xyron...)

Yes, I do have the smaller Rolodex.

Gotta admit that the Xyron works wonderful for this type of project. I'll have to try it on my newest batch of cards.

Kim, I am on the Mac and can't find the discussion but I believe it happened around the second trade. I do remember CathyRose weighed in. I will try and check tomorrow when I am on the PC. I use modge podge to stick them to the actual card, my brayer to smooth them out and cut them with those little yellow bee scissors. Not beautiful at the bottom but...
You will hear from me some time tomorrow for the threads. I am SURE that this was part of one of the longest threads in the history of DAQ (I swear about 14 pages).
My final thought Kim is that you and I need to invent a 3x5 rolodex (we can call it a Large Office Address Cut Out so as not to incite legal action) and market it right here for those of us with the perfectionist need for nice, clean cuts!

All this Rolodex madness kind of makes me glad I never tried it ;)

C'mon Debra, deep inside there is a dexxie desparate to come out...

I think I'm going to give them a try. I was at Staples today and the manager let me colour-copy one card of each size so I could make templates. My plan is to create them and then have them printed on 4x6 paper at the photo lab. I'm going to try punching the holes with a square handheld punch I have.

I'll let you know how I make out. :)

I never thought about using a square punch. Please let us know how it works. The rolodex punch that I bought is pretty flimsy.

Only if they come out w/ 8.5 x 11 sheets of printable perforated index cards and maybe a cool retro rolodex to match. I'm lazy.

They do have labels that are perforated and you stick them on the cards. I was going to see what quality of print you would get. Not too great I imagine because, after all, their purpose is text. But you are running out of excuses. As for the retro rolodex, you are an Altoids tin alterer--a mere rolodex would be a walk in the park for you!

But that's soo....messy...and I just read about your crazed search for some sort of punch. I won't be fooled

Okay, I have been thinking (obsessing?) about this, and this is my plan of action ...

1) I am going to use my newly-created templates as layers while I'm designing the cards.

(I am sharing these templates at http://www.atlantic-shore.com/quirkstuff/ if you're interested. :) )

2) I will make the coloured part of the template transparent, then leave it as the top layer, so that when I merge the holes will be visible on the finished printed piece.

3) Because I always print my digital stuff at the photo lab, I will paste the finished rolodex designs into 4"x6" templates I've created for printing.

(I'm also sharing those. :) I opted to only put one of the smaller cards per print in case the print isn't exactly 4")

4) I will trim the print to a basic rectangle shape, then Xyron them to a thicker cardstock (or maybe make a double-sided card), and then use a square punch and my scissors to cut the slots.

Does this sound like it might work?

Okay, I'm up to the printing point. My first Rolodex card can be seen here (http://www.digitalartquirks.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=2353&cat=500&ppuser=364).

I hope it works out for you. I am heading out to Office Depot for my punch soon. I so want to encourage you and say bravo but I am terribly conflicted. Very very few who have started down the Dexxie path have ever come back again. Sure, you will meet a lot of neat people and get lots of cool cards. But they are all Dexxers. Deep down, Dexxers every last one of them.

Nevermore, you're scaring me.

You must be from Ontario. :)
