Does anyone know where I can find a tutorial on how to do this or would it just be easier if I scanned some?

I can't say I've seen tutorials on it - I think I'd scan :)

Hmm - let's see if I can do this - will get back to you :)

Okay, this was very simple - is that what you are looking for?

Kaza, can you share with us how you did it?

Thats a good redition of the surface of it now what about how it tears so that you can see the structure of it in between the layers and yes would you like to share with us how you did this card you have here? :)

yes, Kaza, please share!!

But I also think the easiest way for it to look real is to scan some....

I agree that scanning is your best bet. Personally I much prefer scanned elements to digitally created. They always look more realistic. Now, the paper is way cool, but the elements always end up a bit flat. However, Kaza's rendition was pretty cool!

This was super easy - really - I haven't tried tearing it yet to show the structure - interesting idea.

I like both real elements and digitally created - I don't care about the realness of the look, so to speak, but I do get a great satisfaction of creating someting digitally and having it look real. Sometimes I don't like to include real elements, as they strike me as odd in a digital picture - know what I mean?

Anyhow, on with this - I used PS CS2, but it can be done in lesser versions.

I started with a 12 x 12, 300 DPI document
Filled it with colour #794f13
Created new pattern layer - pattern green with fibres - overlay mode soft light
I merged the two layers
Copied this new merged layer
Colour palette is #c1985f and #794f13
The Filter>Sketch>Halftone - Settings 8, 47 - line
Blend Multiply

Voila - the secret is having the textured paper as your base

Will keep a copy of this somewhere but I think I might try scanning some as well. :)

Great job Kaza! That looks cool! But as for me ... I am lazy! I would buy it! LOL! Maya has some great cardboard in her Collage Lover's Kit. I use it a lot.

I think for grungy old cardboard scanning is best but Kaza's technique is good because craft shops also sell 'corrugated' color cardstock that is more polished looking. The latter would be nice in cutouts to add dimension.

Yeah, I agree with Debra. I think you could do the tearing in a very random fashion using the smudge tool. Who knows, if you did that, it may come out alot like the real thing, only with the tears just the way you want' them.

But what with the exchange rate between the NZ and US dollar and trying to save for a trip to the US in July and the slowness of my dial up I find it a real hassel purchasing things online right now.

Hope to fix the dial up problem soon after our trip away

Great looking corrigated cardboard! I love using real corrigated paper in paper layouts and collages. Torn cork is also a favorite of mine!

I scan mine, I tear pieces out of old boxes glue it to white paper, scan it and use it, saves a lot of time creating it.:)

Oh Belles, I can so relate on the dial up dilemma. My connection at home is 19200 kb. Dog slow! I like to go use the library WiFi so I can actually enjoy my online time. Maybe your library has computers you can use or Wifi?

LOL Nicole - it took me two seconds to create it - it would take me 5 minutes to tear and scan - LOL - I'm going to work on a torn piece soon - let's see how I go

I do think that is also the most extensive collection I've seen. Very reasonably priced too!
