I know there are already a TON of challenges and activities going on here and everyone is still trying to get a grip on those. So I am leary of adding another to the mix. But just want to share this idea I had for a possible future project.
I noticed today there is a section in the gallery for ATC Jams. Have you ever heard of these? It's when a group of people work on 1 ATC. How fun would that be, right?
Here's what I had in mind. One person volunteers to host. A theme is decided upon. Everybody signs up who wants to play. The host randomly groups people together depending on the decided group size. I thought 2 people would be fun for our first try. It's more intimate. So basically one person starts it then sends it to the next to add to and repeat cycle until ATC is finished. Pretty simple in concept but in practice I can think of a ton of problems that might come up so that's why I wanted to start this thread. Maybe we can work it out together.
Scrapability Michelle (aka Mike or PMS) had posted her idea for a similar type of round-robin project here (http://www.digitalartquirks.com/forum/showthread.php?p=295#post295) and she had brought up some issues that apply here. The main one being the problem with file sharing. If I start an ATC using scrap supplies that have TOU's I can't very well send my layered file to another person to work on because they could theoretically take that image they did not pay for and stick it in their stash. So there you have illegal file sharing. Not everyone is a designer and creates their own elements. So if you can't use your scrap stash and you don't create elements, you're pretty much up the creek without a paddle. You could try to find some free-to-use graphics somewhere, etc. but overall it really limits what you can use which in turn limits your creativity which really is no fun at all.
SO to make a long-winded story short, we'd have to find a way to work around this that would still make this a fun and accessible project for everyone.
The only thing I can think of is to pass around flattened files instead of layered. It somewhat limits what the next person can do to the ATC but at least there is no illegal file sharing (i don't think so anyway?). You could still add to it, play around with the blend modes of the existing stuff, cut and paste, etc. And if you think about it, if you work really hard to do something cool on this ATC you wouldn't want your group to go and delete it or completely change it on you. Flattened files would prevent that. You could really only add and slightly embellish. It's like the game we used to play in school where everyone adds a few lines to a story and it ends up going in all crazy directions. . .know what I mean?
Anyhow, there's my two cents. One thing that would help is if someone has done this already. Anyone done a digital ATC jam before? Or any type of digital group project? Cuz that would really help! I really have no clue what I'm talking about here people! I just made my first ATC ever like two weeks ago! LOL! So I'm by no means qualified to pass judgement on this stuff. I just wanted to get everyone thinking about it and see if there is any interest in something like this in the first place. Maya obviously liked the idea since she went ahead and put a special section for it in the gallery. And personally I thought it would be pretty stinkin' cool.
Alright now I turn the floor over to you quirkers! Discuss!
