Adobe is letting you have the PSC3 Beta for Christmas. Not the full release but the Beta. You have to be a legal PS owner to get a temporary serial number to run it for more than two days. Go, go! It does have some neat features (best so far is Bridge 3 which is a sweetie!!!!). Link is
http://labs.adobe.com/ . I was going to keep this for my Sunday night blog but how could I sit on news like this and deprive everyone of weekend fun?

I saw that the other day Kim. With the serial number are you able to use it indefinately?

Yes but it is only the Beta. And they have said they didn't unpack everything so I can' t imagine not wanting the full version in the spring. Plus, the Beta doesn't have a help file so pretty much need the full version just for that if you are the type who doesn't feel comfortable having only 18 manuals to get you through anything. Just think, come spring I am going to need to buy ten or more new ones!

I downloaded it yesterday and love it. I think the new palettes are a bit hard to get used to, they kind of jumped out and back in not to be seen again a few times first, LOL.
Love the smart filters and Bridge is absolutely great.
Alison, I read on NAPP that the Beta version will probably run out shortly after the new version is officially released, so probably one can't use it forever.

"Will the CS3 beta ever expire?
Absolutely. When the full version of Photoshop is publicly released you can bet the beta will expire soon after. After all, you can’t have free software forever . "

sorry for the misinformation, Alice. Thanks for the clarification Rikki. I am loving it! So far, some of the things seem lame to me (smart select is dumb, not smart) but there are some other great things. Wish it had a manual! Hard to figure out just by playing and I am impatient. I am going to start a thread where people can post neat things they have found or discovered while we are all waiting for help or (dare I say it?) the manuals :)

I figured that it wouldn't be for very long. I am still debating the download and will see what others come up with! Thanks Rikki and Kim!

I am sorry, Alison, I am not understanding the conundrum? I assume you have CS in some form. Why not download and play with the Beta? If you like it, good and you can consider purchasing it or not when it is for sale. If you don't like it, uninstall it. Not sure what the debate is?

Kim is right, especially since you can still use your old PS anyway; you'll have both versions ready to use. Just try and see whether you like it.

I'm wondering what the cost of the upgrade will be. I'd hate to fall in love with a new program, only to discover that there's an enormous upgrade cost. Those of you who are trying the Beta, what new features are you discovering that you like?

One good source of feedback when it actually comes out is Amazon.com reviews - I was laughing at the CS2 reviews. There were people who thought the CS2 upgrade would work w/Photoshop Elements. I know CS2 upgrade only worked w/PS 5.5 or greater plus it didn't work w/Adobe Creative Suite users - apparently you have to upgrade the entire Suite.
Adobe has garned a lot of ill will due to some of it's upgrade policies but I imagine if you own CS/CS2 there won't be much of a problem.

Donna, I would imagine the cost will be about $200 Canadian give or take based on the CS2 upgrade. But I am just guessing. I know I will have to have it even if Max goes without milk money so there is no quandry for me. I have started a thread re things people discover about it so hopefully that will be of some interest to you.

I only have PSE4, so I'm assuming I can't play with this, right? Waaaaah!

Alice me too - I am too poor to buy PSCS as here in Aust. it is mega expensive. On the bright side - I have only bought 3 manuals, PSE4 is not so hard to learn and I am happy with the art I produce. You go girls with the Beta and the Bridges - Best of luck :)

And I am thrilled to say that everything that wasn't working for me is! I love it to bits. One tiny bug acquired but tons o pests eradicated so well worth it. Won't bore you with bug unless someone wants to know. Workaround is no problem-o.

Well I dunno what ya all are talking about completely as I have only just got Adobe Creative Suite 2 Premium. Now we decided to go with this option because I am able to purchase these products with my teacher registration here in New Zealand which means it is way way cheaper. $650 instead of $1625 or there abouts.
Like Australia prices here in NZ for Adobe products is prohibitive for many.
With the Creative Suite comes Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro plus Dreamweaver 8 which is the main reasons we decided to go with the creative suite. We intend eventually taking over the management of our business website ourselves and so these products will allow us to do this and buying them seperatly would be a hug expense even at academic pricing.
In total the Creative Suite contains Photoshop CS2, Illustrator CS2 InDesign CS2 GoLive CS2 and Adobe Acrobat 7 Pro with an upgrade disk in the box as well as seperate disk in the box for Dreamweaver. It also has Version Cue and Bridge and Stock Photos.
Dreamweaver on its own was around $550.
Also my husband uses Adobe Premier Pro for movie editing and so this package then intergrates with what he is trying to achieve as well.
Whewwwwwwwwww now I got my hands full learning all this stuff. Bought a manuel for Dreamweaver but for the last week I have had the flu so have not been able to concentrate on anything much. Plus I gotta start thinking about going back to work and doing some prep for that as well now.
I think I might have to get a manuel for Photoshop as well.
