View Full Version : Quirky talk
I am starting this thread so I have a place to talk to myself. Gotta earn that great kit by the end of the month!! Feel free to talk to yourself here too. Or even to me. That would be fun.
Today is the one-week anniversary of the day I went MAD. I don't know if I'll ever be the same. My mom loves it. My mother-in-law hasn't sent her usual rounds of emails this week. I feel like a new person, and I am loving the ride right now.

Amy, you make me laugh! The kit is going to be awesome, huh?!
I just had a mini panic attack...what if I don't make it to 500? Then I will never see the kit in it's entirely and never be able to play with all the quirky goodness that awaits inside.

Oh dear, how will I ever catch up with you Amy? I've been here about a week too and yet I'm behind. Must talk to self more.
Jess, I had that same panic attack! I think a few people are way ahead of me getting to 500, but I at least want to get there!
Lisa, I spent a lot of time in the gallery the last few days trying to comment. There are some absolutely gorgeous things buried way deep down in there - I'm going to have to go treasure seeking some more. Comments up your post count, though. ;)

LOL - that's where I just went :) There is really a lot of great stuff in the gallery already - quite a talented bunch we have here!

omg...I'm not even to 100 yet! what the heck? Who is stealing my posts? ;)
I was hoping to create tonight, but now I am in a conundrum....
I need to get moving with my praise posting!
Okay, all my fellow quirks. I posted my page for Week Two of the Ultimate challenge. It is about as quirky as you can get!! I feel SO happy about it! I can't wait to be able to bring it back and put it in the gallery here. It is quirkalicous! I've had 20 views and absolutely NO comments on it. I can't wait to see what kind of comments I actually get...

I just saw it! (and commented LOL) I highly recommend a trip over there - it's a great layout! Good luck in the next round Amy!

Do I need to do this? LOL. Don't forget that the number of quirks you've uploaded count towards the post count

Can you link it or PM me the link, Amy, I would like to see it and leave a comment!
Thanks, Lisa, for looking! Cathy, I PMed you.
It's funny, my husband (who has *always* been a great encouragement to me) told me that he believes that page is the best I've ever done. He's been working on a website project, but he will be joining us here in a day or two, I hope. :)

I'm direly in need of posts, too. Sounds like we need to talk about our husbands. What can we do to finally get them to join the rest of us Quirks?

Is this the crazy thread where people talk to themselves?! I'm in! Well hello Robyn - how are you today? Actually had a crap day but it's over now so doin great! Glad to hear from you!
Kazadoodle
05-08-2006, 11:03 PM
Sorry you had a crap day Robyn
happyrobyn
05-08-2006, 11:13 PM
Did I say that out loud? WOW! It must have been crappier than I thought. LOL! I meant to say craptacular! Actually it wasn't too bad it's just that I had trainings all weekend so I didn't get a weekend so one work week ran into the next and so on! But now it's great. Just put all 4 kids in bed and I might sit down by the TV and make some paper ATC's for the May flowers swap! We'll see how that goes. I am much more creative digitally but I'm in for a change of pace. Just slap some elements on and I'm done, right?! I think I may be talking to myself again. Silly, silly me. Perhaps it's time for some random thoughts that are currently running through my head:
Why did you throw the sandal in the tree? What are you eating? My shoe is black. The fan is on too high. Wish I knew how to create a Flash movie. Quiet.

05-08-2006, 11:16 PM
So my self says, Look, come up with something really interesting that all the quirks will wanna discuss.
Ursula

But my other self says, Can't brain hurts too much from talking to my self.

Oh wait, we can talk about Husbands too. I like mine. I like him alot now that He's offered to buy me a CANON D30! Ok, that sounded like I only love him for what he can give me, which isn't true, but it's not a bad thing either. Anyone wanna come to Tucson so I can take pictures of all your lovely 'selves'?

Amy I just checked out your layout and it's awesome! Totally quirkalicious!
I was gonna enter the contest but backed out at the last minute. I had just finished (and lost!) a different contest and wasn't sure I could handle the rejection twice in a row LOL I was also afraid my quirkiness wouldn't be appreciated. I don't think many people at the last contest I was in quite knew what to make of me. LOL I will be watching very closely to see how well the "quirky" layouts fare against the traditional ones.
I wish you the best of luck Amy!!!
BTW, are there any other quirks in the contest? I know Scrapability Michelle is. Anyone else? Come forward so we can keep an eye out for your layouts!

does anyone else notice my general overuse of the smilies? :)
I am a huge smiley overuser too! And exclamation points!! You'd think I'd be a smiley person in real life! :D But I'm not! I usually look like this:  And I can't believe the number of comments I've gotten! I got up to 20 views before I got a single comment, so I thought I was going to be the weird one of the bunch. Well, so far I am the weird one of the bunch. Jessica, I was wondering, what, precisely, constitutes a 'buttload'. Is that similar to a dirty diaper, or just one big honkin' butt?

Hey girls...I know where you can go build up your posting points!! Take a look at individual member's galleries...and leave comments on each layout...
For example, Captain Quirk's gallery (our beloved queen of quirkdom, Maya) hardly has any comments on her AMAZING work.....go show her some love and appreciation for giving us a quirky site to play at and let her know how awesome she is!! :)

I've been steadily posting in the gallery since the first of the month and have worked my way back to pg. 47. Since in most cases, you're going backwards, from newest work to oldest work, it's an interesting journey into the changing styles of the members.
By the way, I want kudos (just passed 200 posts)!!!

I think starting at the last page and working my way forward is an awesome idea. I have been trying to do it the other way around, and it is difficult to really keep up because new quirkworks just keep flowing into the gallery (which is a really awesome thing, no?) :D
Thanks for the suggestion!

Going through the gallery has also made me realize just how cutting edge this artform is. I've been doing digital graphic design since the mid-80s, but only recently began to see its possibilities as an artistic medium.
I've been having fun with this for just a few months. How long have you been doing digital art?
Vania16
05-11-2006, 11:30 AM
I agree - the potential is amazing! It seems like I see something new done digitally every day! As for me, I started digi-scrapping about a year ago, but I got into this kind of thing several months ago - whenever Hope Wallace came to SA - that was really my first intro to collage and it opened up a lot of other possibilities :)
You know, discovering all this now makes me kind of sad. Because I went through this phase where I was too intimidated to join ScrapArtist (even though I was once on Michelle Coleman's DT, what's up with that?). And now I feel like I'm about 6 months behind everyone else on discovering all the cool new things you can do. But I'm still too scared to go be a newbie over there!!
I discovered Digital Art on May 1st, when this site opened. I am a total noob.

Amy - don't be scared of SA ... it's a friendly bunch! And as for how long I have been digiscrapping ... I started in August of 2004. But I started teaching myself Photoshop and web design in 1999 and that greatly helped accelerate my learning curve. I have been doing more non-traditional layouts for about a year. This was sped up when I met Christine (Fiddlette) and we sort of encouraged each other to take risks. She has been a huge encourager and supporter to me!
kygirl
05-11-2006, 01:54 PM
One thing I like about SA is the challenges because they encourage me to do things I would never try. I make a lot of mistakes. In fact, I can't wait for this month to be over, so I can take down some challenge submissions that I just hate. But, you learn by doing.
And you know, not once, on any board, has anyone ever posted, "Kygirl, that's a lousy layout!" :) They may have wanted to, but they never have.
So, I encourage you to venture out. Post your best, post your worst -- it's all fun.
(Sorry, I went into Mom mode there. I can't help it. I'm the oldest of five girls and the mother of two, so I'm just used to pushing everyone along. Forgive me? :) )
happyrobyn
05-11-2006, 02:03 PM
I never take anything out of my galleries! LOL! And some of my older galleries have the proof that there was a definite learning curve. Here ... I'll be brave ... here's a link to my worst-ever layout! Just look at those incredible shadows, and that fantastic cut-out work. And the awesome use of elements! ROFL! I think I made this layout the day I discovered SBB and there it still sits in my gallery. Please be nice! Anticipation (http://www.scrapbook-bytes.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=33602&cat=500&ppuser=7625)
I figure we all learn from past mistakes and grow from it. But you should not shun your past! Be proud of yourself for learning!!!

I'm with you Robyn - I still have all my old stuff floating around out there LOL It's kind of fun to see how far I've come :) Here's a link to the first page of my layouts at SBB - mercifully, there is some kind of problem with the layouts showing when you click into the individual page, so I thought you could get an eye-full of thumbnails LOL The one called Flying was actually my first ever layout :) Yikes.
http://www.scrapbook-bytes.com/gallery/showgallery.php?cat=500&page=16&ppuser=16698
Thanks for sharing, Robyn! I've done much worse. :D It is good to go back and look at early layouts to see how far we've come. Thanks for encouraging me - I just went and registered at SA. Can you believe I was never even registered???? That's what a fraidy cat I was being. Don't know why. I guess I'd rather be a bad scrapper in a big pond than the worst scrapper at SA. :p

I just recently joined SA, too! I haven't been back much because I haven't had much time to scrap layouts, and there's some new site that I've been obsessed with lately  Anyway, I really love SA!
Okay - old layouts... I don't seem to have the first four to five months of digital layout uploaded anywhere, but there really weren't that many anyway... But here's one old one: kiss for E (http://www.scrapforums.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=52&sort=1&cat=500&page=22) and another: Cornholio (http://www.scrapforums.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=321&sort=1&cat=500&page=22)
Sadly, I don't know if my style has changed very much. I've just gotten better at some techniques.
Ursula

Aw gals, don't worry, we all start somewhere. I look at the galleries here and realize that I'm no where near what some of the scrappers are accomplishing, but looking at my own gallery and seeing where I started, I realize I've come a long way. It's not about competeing with one another, it's more about expressing yourself through art. Post away girl!
happyrobyn

No competitions allowed! I look through the galleries and I am floored by the creativity and talent. Each artist here is unique and that's so cool!
