Seeing Cathy Rose's post on her 85 cent find made me wonder what other art books are out there that you find exciting. I know I've already mentioned that I'm working my way through Nick Bantock's book on collage, "Urgent 2nd Class."
So, what's your favorite book on art techniques?
Have you found any good ones on digital art?

Great idea :) I already have Urgent 2nd Class in my cart at Amazon, just awaiting some company so I can get free shipping LOL As for me, I love Lynne Perrella's Artist's Journals and Sketchbooks and I recently picked up Visual Chronicles by Linda Woods and Karen Dining - loving that too! As for digital art, I can't say I've seen a lot, but there is a magazine called Photoshop Creative that I love to look through (someday I might actually even buy one LOL) for ideas - it has tutorials and websites to check out, etc. very cool.

I love Collage Discovery Workshop by Claudine Hellmuth. I think that most of the techniques can be adapted to digital too, with a little imagination.

I also LOVE Lynne Perella's book! It's been a great source of inspiration for me. I have a few others but return to that one over and over.

My husband just bought me the most amazing book (an early Mother's Day present). It's "New Masters of Photoshop Vol. 2", and it consists of interviews and workshops with 14 digital artists. There's a CD so you can work through each of their projects as you follow along in the book.
The art is stunning. I can't wait to get started.

I've added the Perrella and Hellmuth books to my wish list. Another one I've been wanting to buy is Nancy Curry's "Texture Effects for Rubber Stamping." It's another book with a lot of cool ideas that could easily be adapted.

Oh dear - that would involve naming a stack of about 30 books or more!!
When I'm up to it - I'll go and list them but not now - LOL

Kaza, if you'd had the opportunity to make 30 posts a week ago, you'd have been thrilled. :) (Just kidding.)
Looking forward to seeing your list when you get a chance. I'm a book addict.

Well, I'll start the list, but I must say that I simply adore most everything in print. I love reading, browseing. I was in B&N today and couldn't get enough of all that eye candy!
So, I love all the 'Designing With' series of books by Autumn leaves. They've evolved over time, but they always seem to have true scrapartists at the top of their game in those books. They're always breaking out of the current box.
I also love Visual Chronicles, Altered Art, anything by Stampington, a magazine called 'Print', Create Mag. Gosh, ther're so many! I love to look at the art/photography section at the bookstore. Ton's of cool stuff.

I have a book called Altered Art I love (can't remember the author, so maybe it is one y'all already mentioned) I also love the Sandra McCall Rubber stamp books, books by Design Originals authors, and the Rubber Stamped Jewelry by the editor over at Stampington...(her name escapes me, too)
Mostly I love magazines, though...less expensive and easier to hold up while laying in bed late at night!! :)

Kazadoodle, I am in love with Giordan's Art of Photoshop. It is so breathtaking and the best thing (for me) is that being somewhat adrift re what it is I do (my son says I colour on the computer and a lot of times I think that that is as accurate as anything) he is someone I can look at and say, gee, I wanna do that when I grow up...

Yep, I love his books too - was going to purchase his Art of Photoshop CS2 but stopped myself - really, it isn't all that different from the ones that I have but they are gorgeous

These are all great suggestions. I'm going to have to print out a list and hit Amazon and E-Bay. I guess I could try the library first, but I'm terrible about keeping books out too long.

I love Arts & crafts books!! I have a small collection, especially in comparison to Kazadoodle but I have almost all of Mary Engelbriet's books as I love her whimsiness and she definately is quirky too! She was also a great inspiration to my illustrations I drew for my children's story.

Me too! Ursula, have you been to the used book store on Campbell north of Grant - it's on the east side of the street, a little south of Sarnoff, the art supply store? I can't remember the name of it, but it's really cool - has a great old-bookstore feel to it and they have lots of art books!

Thanks for the tip Lisa, I'll have to check that one out. Bookmans is where I usually go for used stuff.
I love Mary Englebriet too. The Artful Life is a good one. Wow, Kaza, that's quite a list. I couldn't begin to list all of mine. My house may as well be a library. At least my kids like books too It's hard to justify owning so darn many!
I'm always adding more too, via Mags, ect

Ursula - you sound like me - if anyone wants any craft books, they need to come over to my house - LOL.
I forgot to include my collection of Klutz books - I think they are great. I just bought making mini ribbon purses - so cool.

That sounds cool! Making purses is something that's definitely on my list to learn to do! I buy way too many bags - I'm gonna have to start making 'em myself :)

I hear you Lisa! I actually want this book on making hats...I love hats and actually need to wear them but storeboughts are almost always too big (I've got a little head but not as small as a child)...so I figure the best solution is to learn to make hats so I can design hats that 'fit' my head! lol!:D

Two books came to mind:
First I love anything by Sandra Evertson (Fanciful Paper Projects)
Second, Anna Corba (Vintage Paper Crafts)
Did anyone mention these already??

I have one that I picked up late last year with a gift certificate someone had given me. It's called Digital Photo Art and it's by Theresa Airey. I love it. Very inspirational. And she tells how she did stuff, which I loved as well.
I agree about the magazines too. There is one I haven't seen mentioned that I love that is new-ish called Cloth Paper Scissors. It's not digi in the least, but it's gets my creativity going, and that's a good thing, I think! :)

Oh, me too. I have subscribed to her magazine since it debuted. I am very inspired by her stuff. Very colorful and quite quirky on the home decor side of things.

I also like to buy books on Photoshop, lots of cool stuff to learn, and photography, though I find it difficult to find those with out the nudity included. there are several books out by 'making memories'. Beyond Metal and Beyond Attachments are two of my favorites. Yeah, Kaza, I'm so bad, as soon as I walk in the LSS, the ladies name off all the new books they have. They know what I want. Oh, and I just bought a book recently that is sooooo cool. It's called 'Inspiribility' and it is a series of interviews of top designers around the world of all kinds. Each one talks about what gives them inspiration. Really cool. the best part?.....it's covered in lime green velvet with black lettering. I need to do a page just on that book!
